Tip for Easy Installation of the Bottom Bracket Spindle Shaft for a LeMond...

When installing a new bottom bracket spindle shaft onto your LeMond RevMaster Classic indoor cycle, it is important that you note which way it is to be used by looking at the spindle closely. We've learned a tip that makes for easy installation and that is a quick measurement will determine the proper orientation of the spindle.
  • The spindle has different lengths from the edge of the raised portion to the ends.
  • The measurement of roughly 1-3/4" will be on the RIGHT side and will attach to the RIGHT crank.
  • The opposite side measures roughly 1-1/2" from the end to the edge of the raised portion, it will attach to the LEFT crank arm.

I have a 1970s huffy 3 speed. I've restored basically the whole, except I cannot remember how to take the crank shaft apart so I can see the condition of the spindle. Everything works smoothly;...

First you must remove the pedal on the opposite side of the sprocket it is usually reverse threaded so to remove you will turn it clockwise with an open end wrench. Then remove the jam nut (this nut locks the bearing retainer in place which is also usually reverse threaded). Once the jam nut is removed, using a large bladed screwdriver place it in one of the slots, tilt the screwdriver back and tap with a hammer (usually comes off pretty easy once the jam nut is removed). Slide the chain off the sprocket remove both the inner and outer bearing set. If the crank is hard to turn when riding the bearings are probably in dire need of grease. You can purchase a small tub of bearing grease from your auto parts store. Cover both bearing rings completly before reassembly. (Don't use oil)
Hope this helps.

The front chainset is jammed and lubrication doesn't solve the problem.

Jamming is a physical prevention of movement; lube allows already moving parts to move easier.

Is it chain ****?

Kick start thinggy on the engine as rounded off

Usually a Honda part will fit those pit bikes. Honda 50-150 cc should fit. Take a file and clean up what you can of the splines on the shaft going into the engine. Fully remove the bolt and nut before removing the kickstarter as the bolt is in a groove to help retain the lever. Refit the new lever and tighten down well......Good luck to you...Tim
