Question about Polycom SoundPoint IP 501 IP Phone

Weird Problem with Polycom 501's

We have a few phones that having problems doing consultative transfers. When we do it, we would call the third party by hitting transfer button then tell the party we are transferring and pressing the transfer button again, sometimes it does not do anything but just sit there. Blind transfers work.

The strange this is if we unplug the phone from the Power Over Ethernet and use it's own power plug, we can do consultative transfers with no problems, well 10 transfers so far. Is this just some weird coincidence?

SIP Version 3.1.2
BootRom: 4.1.2

Thanks,

John Vo

Well, I just tried it and it did not work. It is not the POE.

    Any idea?

SOURCE: failed to get boot parameters via DHCP

You didn't provide any information about your network which is ALWAYS required to provide any type of help, not to mention a solution.

"Failed to get boot parameters via DHCP, xxx seconds until reboot" simply means that the computer isn't getting an IP address from your router. Setting up your router is another entirely separate topic.

This is pretty simple though, one of three things is happening:

1. Your router is not properly configured to provide DHCP to the phone.
2. Your network cable is bad.
3. Your phone is bad (most likely the RJ45 port since the phone seems to work otherwise).

You can check for bad ports or cables by checking the port status within the router. If the port is lit up, most likely the cable and phone port are fine. This is not 100% though, replacing the cable should always be a consideration even with a lit port.

As you have probably found, SIP phones are not supported until R5, which just came out.

SOURCE: can ping my polycom 501 but cannot open with my

Have you tried a factory reset from the menu interface? Be careful if you do, and only choose "Format File System" as a last resort, and only if you feel comfortable enough setting up a FTP/TFTP boot server to re-provision the phone, as this option will erase everything, and then all it'll do is get stuck in a boot cycle until reprovisioned.

Polycom IP 501 won't reset to default when using MAC address as password

If your phone isn't on a constant reboot cycle and can boot up, then go into Admin Setting and do a Format File System reset. NOTE: Only try this if you know how to download the software files onto the phone via FTP server. Once you download the latest software your phone should be almost as good as new.

I have a problem regarding my Polycom Soundpoint IP331. It doesn't boot anymore. It shows only an error which is error.cfg.

You need to reinstall all the files back onto the phone. You can get the files from the Polycom Website. You can also follow the instruction from my Polycom 501 Fixya blog to see how its done.

What type of phone system do you have? Is the phone registering with the server?

It sounds like the phone is not registering with the server and the extension does not have voicemail. Need more details to diagnose.

Ohh this mean, you did not register this extension on your phone system. Create this extension on your phone system. Be sure that password given on Phonesystem is also configured on phone too.
