Ink absorber full on Canon MP130

Can no longer print and I called a local repair person who wants $120 - I can buy a new printer for that, plus I like this one and have a year's worth of ink.

Can't anybody do this?

I cannot believe the Canon people built this in!!

This is What MightyFalcon Wrote in 2007.
The waste Ink absorber is a small, deep sponge, located where the cartridges rest when the printer is idle. Although you can technically reset the counter on the amount of ink held in the absorber, if you overfill it, over time you will start to have color staining on your cartridges, since your carts clean up on it after every cycle, at the extreme, you can have ink residue build up under your printer. Online printer supply shops can sell you a replacement absorber cheap.

However, since I am skilled in the art of "frugal" you can also do things this way. You will need some rubber gloves, rubbing alcohol, and a small prying tool.

1) Locate the absorber at the bottom right of the cartridge path
2) With gloves on, pry up the absorber (if you have the almost full warning, be prepared for some good splatter.)
3) In a small dish with a small amount of rubbing alcohol, shake the absorber around for a short while to moisten the outer ink.
4) Rinse the absorber in a metal sink (porcelain can stain) with more alcohol, then leave it to dry.
5) Replace and make sure the absorber is seated the same as when you took it out.

Then you want to reset the counter for the absorber.
1) Enter the Service Menu by keying = Menu,Scan,Copy,Scan.
2) Use the arrows to navigate to Service Menu Counter Access. then press OK.
3) Use the arrows to navigate to ABS-M Dot Count, press Copy.
4) Use the arrows until the count is zero, press OK then Reset.
5) For good measure, turn the printer off and on.

Bada boom! like brand spankin new!

Eight flashes: Waste ink absorber almost full

The printer has a built-in waste ink absorber for the ink used during Print Head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.

Important

Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible

Ink Absorber Full on Canon Printers

When you see the error "Ink absorber nearly full" or "ink absorber full" you
really need a shop to replace the ink absorber. The error is generated by firmware in the printer or multi-function that counts the number of prints, power cycles, and cleaning operations. It is not a sensor or gauge inside to be reset. The absorbers are thick pads covering the bottom of the print engine and all waste ink from the purge assembly is directed through channels and tubes to these absorbers. You should never reset the error code without fresh absorbers installed as the ink can fill inside and ruin the printer or damage the furniture the printer sits on. The absorbers are fairly cheap, from $10.00 to about $20.00 and after changing the pads the Canon repair person will enter the service mode and reset the counter. This operation is well worth the expense as a good technician will clean and lubricate the printer at the same time ensuring you of longer trouble-free printing.

Hi there. You will basically have two options for the waste ink absorber being full. You can call canon and find a local repair center to replace the ink absorber pad or you can junk the printer and buy a new one. A person can try to dis-assemble the printer and purchase the ink absorber kit from somewhere online but you run the risk of messing up things inside the printer if you don't know what your doing.

Best of luck..

Have the service manual for your model, but replacing the ink absorber doesn't look easy. You might want to consider seeing a Canon repair person.
If it is possible to e-mail the service manual I will do so to you if it helps!

Ink absorber full on canon mp460

I found this at the Canon website. Doesn't sound good - You are not alone, I have the same printer.

Solution: Ink absorber replacement options - MP460

Ink Absorber Replacement Options This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible. Press the <OK> button to cancel the error. You will still be able to print for a short period. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk.

Waste ink absorber canon mp130

Hi. It happens when there is some problem with the cartridges tank, either full or not seated properly. I found that Canon recommends following methods (directly from canon) to fix it.

Method 1:
Reset the device when it is not functioning properly.
If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.

1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
