I cant find an exact amtch for the model number provided. for the next closes model i can find it looks as if the all the controls are up front in the refrig section. if you will look on the underside of the control housing you will see recessed holes with retaining screws. usually there are 2 (1 on right side of housing 1 on left side). once these are removed then the console should drop down and expose the timer. in some older boxes there were more screws in the rear of the console but try the front ones first. if this doesnt sound like your refrig please recheck your model number for me and message me back. thnks peyton

Look around where the thermostat is . do you see a 1/2 inch hole where there's a small button where a flat screwdriver can turn it then that's the defrost control. remove the upper panel and you should have access to the control. Good Luck

Hi Thomas,

The timer is located in the housing with the cold control within the ceiling of the refer section. Part number you seek is WR9X565 its a white box with two ***** mounts. Once you bring down the control housing it should be directly behind the cold control in the middle. Good Luck

Compressor and fan stop working

There is a possibility that the defrost timer turned the compressor and fans off and stuck in the defrost lobe of the defrost timer. I want you to try turning the defrost timer slowly clockwise. The defrost timer is in location 257 behind the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Here is a photo of the parts location HERE
If doing this causes the refrigerator to work again then replace the=> WR9X489 Defrost Timer

If this does not work I want you to try something else so let me know what happens Thanks

Fridge stopped cooling but freezer works what could it be

Most likely the=> WR09X10041 Defrost Timer
8_16_2012_6_32_05_pm.jpg

found inside the fresh food section and behind the control panel. Click HERE for the location. Part location number 648 is the defrost timer. Location number 618 is the=> WR51X10038 Defrost Heater Assembly
8_16_2012_6_39_15_pm.jpg
If you change the defrost heater then you should also change the WR50X10071 Defrost Thermostat
8_16_2012_6_44_55_pm.jpg

and that is the location number 620 found HERE First I want you to try turning the defrost timer slowly clockwise until compressor and fans stop. Leave like this up to about 30 minutes. You should hear crackling and sizzle noise inside the freezer. If after 30 minutes the compressor and fans do not restart this will indicate the defrost timer and that part will need replaced. Try that first and let me know what happens. I will be here to answer questions if you like, Thanks Sea Breeze

FROST BUILD UP IN FREEZER AND REFER NOT COLD ENOUGH

hello.

  • Defrost the freezer
  • Clean the condensor coils
  • Check the door seals
  • Test the door switch
  • If you recently adjusted the temperature control, loaded the refrigerator or are in a humid location, it is not uncommon for a refrigerator to run for 24 hours or more before getting cool.

    Defrost timer sticking

Your model doesn't have a defrost timer. Everything is controlled by the main motherboard in the back. The ONLY way to get an acurate diagnosis is to call GE FActory Service at 1-800-432-2737. There is proprietary software and the tech will be able to plug in a laptop to your refer to find out what is going on. No other companies have this or have access to this software. By the way that deforst thermostat you think you found isn't what you think it is. It looks like one but it only a saftey device. Trust me...!
