Question about Harman Kardon AVR 7000

Shuts down after 4-5 seconds

I have the above symptom. When the unit is in stand-by, and I atempt to turn it on, The display will light up for 4-5 sec. and then the unit switches off again (rigt after the second relay-click). I think I have Isolated the root cause to be in the display-board, as I still have the issue if the only connected boards are the supply-board and the front board. The second the display is lit, I have full response from the display, so I hope it is not a CPU issue, but then I am somewhat stuck. Any hints are appreciated. /Kaare

The protection pin on the CPU is stabil at 0V (alarm-state), in spite of a 10k pull-up (everything else is disconnected).
Am I right in assuming that this indicates a fried port on the CPU?
The tact input from the volume control is also dead, but the source selection works fine.
I am a little puzzled here, how often does only a port of a CPU burn? As I noted previously, I have display and can change source just fine (same CPU).

I have come to the same conclusion.
Thanks for your help, it is nice to have a second opinion before I attempt to find a new brain (CPU) for it :-)
Time will tell if it is feasible to repair it...

I did get the digital part of the reciever fixed. It was unfortunately the processor that was blown (the "protect" input was shorted to ground), a new processor fixed that problem. Your problem might be similar, but unfortunately I do not know a easy way to verify this. I had to disconnect all circuitry to the processor in order to have good confidence in this root cause of the problem, and even then it was a chace to take to order the new processor...My worst fear was, that the new one would blow as well, the moment I threw the switch.

I was lucky to find a Harman repair center that would sell me the correct processor (apparently even Harman has a hard time identifying what current processor programming would work with my AVR), and I got it at a reasonable cost (60-70 USD). I am quite certain that a standart repair shop would have returned this unit with a "unable to repair" statement.

I am very thankfull to Rtechman for his effort with my problem!

Your set does not have a display problem I'm afraid. The unit is shutting down because it is going into whats called the protect mode. You said that when you disconnect something the display stays on. That tells you that the audio amp is probably what you disconnected so the receiver does not see a short anywhere. You will need to have the output circuit diagnosed for this to work. Good Luck

Do you have a PDF on this? If you do send it to and explain exactly on the e-mail what you have tried, and I will throw my two cents in too.

after looking at the extensive manual(whew!!) It does look like the protect port on the micro could be bad, as with it, why else would hold down the voltage, as there is a dropping resistor there and the unit looks like in a normal operation mode, the voltage gets held high. Is that how you are deciphering this situation?

Thats going to be a tough one to replace, well if you have all the proper surface mounted removal equipment , maybe not so bad but a real pain in the &^^&*. :>)

When DVD is plugged in the red stand-by light comes on, but when the power button is pushed the stand-by light goes out and the DVD will not come on. I have attempted to reset by holding power button down...

Hi Erickson,

First of all, thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.

I'm assuming here that your unit is Sharp BD-MPC41U.

The symptoms you've mentioned indicated that the power supply board of your unit gone to protection mode that's why the LED automatically shuts off. It will encountered once the feedback circuitry sensed malfunction and immediately turned off the unit to avoid further damaged.
To resolve the issue, you have to replaced the power supply board, part number RUNTKA699WJN0. I saw it in stock at this LINK or obtain it from your local Sharp service centers.

Also, don't forget to check if your unit is under warranty period (1 year), if so, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. Opening the top cover will void the warranty.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Hope I helped you!

Have a great Holidays!!!

Ratings and feedback are highly appreciated.

Mitsubishi 73" DLP powers on, through welcome

If you are getting at turn on source and back ground is all blue the set will shut down rather quickly;

I have a suggestion, if it works fine, and if not it will not hurt anything.

with original Mitsubishi remote turn set on and then Menu, 1,2,3, enter.

This is the soft reset that most of these sets have (cannot be sure since Model number above is correct?)

The reset button on the front (if it has it) just shuts the set down and reboots the DM unit inside.

Most of these sets when it is pressed the green light will blink for about 70 seconds and go out; that is the DM unit rebooting and the soft restart is something else.

Let me know what you find before you rate this information.

Take every single cable out of the unit, now power on the unit.

If the power protection still shows then there is an internal fault, usually a short or a component defect.

If it powers on ok, switch off and insert 1 speaker at a time and power on the unit until the protection mode comes on again, the last speaker you have put in has overloaded it for some reason, also as you are trying each speaker use the volume and bass controls to see if there is an internal overload.

Thats as much as I can offer you until you narrow the fault down to the unit or one of the speakers.

My tv will not power up?

If you have Hitachi model number 50UX58B, 60UX58B, 50UX58K, 60UX58K, 50SBX78B or 60SBX78B and you have the following symptoms you may want to grab a repair kit from They have put together a kit that includes the parts and instructions to fix these models. This is a fairly common problem with the above model numbers. It is typically caused by a blown capacitor and pico fuse. Again, you can get a kit from the above address.

Here are the symptoms...

Primary Symptom: No Audio or Video. Power light will come on briefly then shut off.
Other Possible Symptoms : The green LEDs on the circuit board light up for a few seconds then turn off.

Hope this helps,

AC unit not running

Try to off the power supply(circuit breaker) to reset the error and on again and start the unit. But if the symptom's persist you have to call for a qualified technician.

Receiver shuts down after loud bang

You said Unit is enclosed!! Does that mean it is inside something? Receivers & Amps need to have a clearance above them so air can circulate, otherwise you'll have an overheating problem. You also might have some of your wires crossed which will cause the Amp to shut down. Look at all your connections and make sure they're correct, including speaker wires.
