Question about Panasonic PT-53WX42 53" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

No power light

I replaced two STK392-110 chips and a 2.2 ohm resistor. The original problem was the power light blinking three times. After reassembling the unit it now does nothing. When I plugged the unit in I saw no smoke or no sparks. I have 110VAC in and the fuse is not blown. Is there something simple I could have over looked? I am now at a loss at what to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the wire connections especially the bridge connectors between the two boards. If they are all securely and plugged in properly. Check for solder connections on the parts that you replaced.

Convergence Resistors keep burning up

Some simple advice---if resistors are smoking one of the chips is shorted----The set has two voltages that go to them--one a positive voltage and one a negative voltage.

If either chip is shorted you can replace the resistors all year and not get anything. The resistors are protection in case one or both chips short----

Remove all old heat grease and install two new chips and replace the resistors at the same time.

Note that the set may have pico fuses on the power board also.

Pt-53tw53g hasflashing light flashes 3 times

Short protection and a 98 percent chance one or more of the 2.2 ohm resistors that protect the two STK-392-110 convergence chips are open.

I will enclose a photo of the chips and directly in front of them are a number of light powder blue resistors----look over the group for ones actually marked 2.2----look to see if any are discolored (somewhat in the middle). A meter can be used to test them instantly---the ones with values marked that are not 2.2 never fail.

If this is found it explains the three blinks---resistor opens and set detects no voltage to one of the two chips and shuts down.

Both chips and any open resistors (usually only one) need to be replaced.

I have my own start to finish instructions with more info based on having done this repair in this set hundreds of times.

A email address will result in getting a copy of them for free--they tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair.

PT53WX52F three blinking light

short protection: one of the several 2.2 ohm blue resistors in front of the convergence chips is burnt/discolored and bad.

Both chips would have to be replaced.

Do it yourself if you can solder and I have instructions for this repair.

photo of chip attached.

Let me know if you have questions.

Panasonic pt-61hx42, turned on tv and the power light blinks three times in a continus pattern. I assume this is a power supply problem, can you tell me which componet is blown?

The three blink error code is the error for failed convergence ICs and the low ohm resiustors. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model from which has the 2 ICs and the 6 low ohm resistors plus the kit contains the CD with detailed repair instructions.

I have a Panasonic HDTV that was made in July 2002 Model#-PT-61HX42F. The screen just went off and the power button keeps blinking 3 times then goes off and repeats but the picture will not come back on

3 blinks is short protection and usually means one of the 2.2 ohm blue resistors in front of the convergence IC chips is bad---the chips are black and 2 1/2 by 1 1/2 tall and should have STK392-110 on the front of them; locate them and look at all the (about 10) powder blue resistors in front of them----if you find one or more discolored or white in the middle the chips and the resistor needs to be replaced.

It can be a do it your self repair (I have start to finish instructions if you need them).

Tv still turning off blinking three times after hori ic replaced

Three blinks is short protection.

97% of the time it means one or more of the 2.2 ohm blue resistors around the two convergence IC's is OPEN.

There should be 8 or 10 of them: light blue in color and will have 2.2 printed on them ------look for any that are slightly discolored or white in the middle.

What happens here is if one opens====one of the two convergence chips got it----they can be tested in place like testing a fuse===no reading across any of them and it is gone-----set detects no voltage reaching the chips(Usually STK-392-110---black in color and on metal heat sinks with fins side by side.)

I have start to finish, step by step instructions showing what is needed and the best way to replace the chips etc.

If you want the instructions let me know and I will post them here for you.

Regards, SD TECH

FYI= Whoever told you to replace the output transistor does clearly not know these sets very well as it will produce a 5 blink error code.

My rear projection tv just failed me by turning off. The picture seemed fine, no convergence, but it turned off while the power indicator blinks three times. Have read similar posts, but did not have the...

Yes, the three blinks is short protection. If one or more of the 2.2 ohm blue resistors is white in the middle one of the STK-392-110 chips got it.

I may be the one whose post you saw. I have start to finish step by step instructions for this repair in this set.

I can also tell you the best place to get them and the instructions tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair in the best way.

They are based on the fact that I have fixed hundreds of these sets with the same problem you have.

Panasonic tv shows error code power light of 3 blinks, pause, 3 blinks

Three blinks is short protection---98% chance one of the two STK-392-110 convergence IC chips is shorted.

All will depend on if you can do the repair or have to pay to have it done. Most shops will get 300 for this repair--but you can buy the parts for under 30 dollars on Ebay (I know a good seller there)

Also: I have start to finish, step by step instructions for this repair on the model listed---they tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair. Both chips need to be replaced---in your case with the 3 error--you are going to find one of the blue resistors near them is bad--white in the middle--the dozen or so 2.2 ohm resistors are there in case either chip shorts--easy to test, just like checking a fuse.

The instructions are mine, based on doing this repair hundreds of times---if you want the instructions let me know and I will post them here--remember to rate this solution.

I am going to post a photo here of what the Chips look like for you.

My Panasonic PT-56WX42 won't turn on. Pressing the power button causes it to attempt to come on, then the power led starts to flash in groups of 3.

Three blinks is short protection.

It usually means one of the two convergence IC chips that this set uses is bad.

This set should have two STK-392-110 CHIPS located on heat sinks made of metal (side by side) chips are black and about 2 1/2 inches wide X 1 1/2 inches tall)

They will have the STK number printed on them in white.

If you locate them look at all the blue resistors around them---most are marked 2.2 ohms---if you see any that are discolored or burnt in the middle--YOU HAVE FOUND YOUR PROBLEM!

Both chips (you can buy a pair on EBAY for about 12 dollars (use 392-150--it replaces the 110 chip and is a better part) need to be replaced and the set adjusted with the original remote. If any of the 2.2 ohm resistors are bad you need to replace them as well.

The question here is are you able to do this repair yourself if I post start to finish instructions here for you?

If not, check around your area---this is a easy repair and any good tech can do it right in your home in about one hour. Some shops will charge 300=400 for this kind of repair---I HAVE DONE HUNDREDS OF THEM HERE AND CHARGE 200-250 TOTAL for a in home repair of this type.

The way I usually approach this kind of repair is to gain access to the chips and unsolder both of them--18 pins each---if the set then turns on I know one of the chips is gone--if you find any discolored resistors around them--this is your problem.

Let me know if you want the instructions or IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS- I am here to help people.

did you replace the convergence resistors with the ICs? Often the resistors will need to be replaced also when new ICs are installed. 3 blinks means convergence Failure so its either the solder connections on the ICs or the resistors need replacement. If you need more assistance please let me know.
