I have tried to reset the nuvi pushing the lower right hand corner, reseting locale, and reseting back button. it will not change. it keeps asking me if i am indoors and if i am in the state of kansas. i always press NO then it disconnets me. is my nuvi fixable? or damaged?
it went bonkers as i was on the highway driving. please help me! i can't afford to buy another gps.
Kansas is a default location. It is not getting a sat signal as it asks about being indoors. New GPS or one turned off for a long period of time or moved a large distance while off will need to download a new constellation table before it will be able to function. This may take 20 minutes or so. Unless it is a defective unit, place it where it has a clear view of unobstructed sky. And leave it on a while. Once it learns what sats to expect, it should begin to work.

Do you have a fresh battery in the unit? Make sure your 'reset' button inside the battery case isn't 'stuck' on (push a little pencil in there).
Fresh battery, then do a reset inside the case, do a reset to factory settings, then try normal on and off with the switch and see if that fixes it or not.
I had the exact same problem happen to me yesterday with my S50. My guess is that the software got corrupted somehow. I fixed mine last night be reinstalling S50 software via USB cable to my PC. Note: You need My Sirius Studio application loaded on your PC. Be sure to press Exit button on My Sirius Software Ap after you reinstall S/W. Patiently wait for S50 to 100% complete before disconnecting. Then, manually turn on S50 (while holding in your hand); do NOT put in car/home dock yet. S50 will then update S/W. When this completes, now you can put in dock. I don't exactly recall, but I think the S50 indicated the dock was being updated, then it defaulted to channel 184 indicating to call Sirius to subscribe. Since I already have a subscription in place on my S50, I just pressed channel 2 (The Blend) from my remote, and then my S50 began updating all channels. Success! I'm so happy my S50 is now working again! Good luck to others experiencing same problem; hope this helps! I can only imagine the frustration trying to get help from Sirius folks for this type of problem...
Press and hold volume up and power button at the same time to do a reset and to power down. You need to update firmware from the XM website to your unit and then do a master reset. contact Delphi by phone for deatailss lon how to reset and update firmware. Do not use a card larger than 2GB either.
My radio was stuck on "scanning media" and the regular reset (volume up and Mode) did not work. Nothing that I did, fixed it... I called Delphi and they said... (1) Put radio in it's cradle, press Volume UP/Mode buttons for 3 seconds until it resets. (2)Then when the "scanning media" message appears press up arrow, down arrow, up arrow.
My delphi screen unlocked. I LOST everything that I had recorded, but that was fine with me.
I had to update the firmware and everything is working fine.
Losing all my recorded songs was much better than having to send in my radio!
Hopefully this will work for you! Delphi was extremely helpful and very nice so don't be afraid to call them if this doesn't work!
Don't disconnect it just because the screen freezes. This can happen if the battery is depleted too far, because the load is too great for charging AND running the device simultaneously. Leave it connected for 20 minutes or so, to see if the screen returns to normal appearance. If not, then you will be needing a new battery. Be sure to charge the new one BEFORE it is fully depleted. They are not NiCd batteries, so there is no need to fear ?memory effect". With NiMh and Lithium batteries, those days are gone, thank God!
I had the same issue with my Sportster Replay SR2. The backlight was usually out, but would flicker on, especially when I would apply pressure to the back.
The unit only has two screws at the bottom, which I removed. I couldn't seem to remove the back cover and was afraid I might break it, so I snugly put the screws back in and decided to give up until I could find some more information on how to remove the back.
Voila! After putting the unit back into its cradle in my car, the back light worked! I believe that the screws had simply loosened over time, and the connections for the backlight simply were not making contact.
I'm not sure how long this fix will last, but so far so good. So before doing any soldering or monkeying with the connections, just try tightening the screws first to see if it fixes the problem as it did for me.
There is a very small reset button under the back cover. You will need a small paper clip to reach the button. It is located in the upper left hand corner. The button is not under the batt., it is about 2" above the screw on the side. I don't know if this will solve your problem, but it should reset your radio to its default settings. Good Luck!
