Unplug the seat switch and put a jumper in the wire conector. This will complete the circut. See if the tractor will start.

Are you sure the safty switch is working. It sounds like its in the seat switch or the pedal switch.

You can sometimes jump these switches over with a paper clip or small metal wire to make contact on each side of the plugin.

this being on the machine side.

Also PTO cluth may be seized. in the on position locking up the motor. and blades.

What do I need to check to activate starter will not engage. Engine will start but dies when blades are engaged

If your mower runs fine, but dies when the blades are engaged, that has nothing at all to do with the starter - or with the engine. There is a malfunction is in either the electrical system, PTO clutch or one of the safety features somewhere. Check all of the belts first for wear or breakage, then if they're OK, you probably need a small engine mechanic, but it doesn't sound really serious.

Why does my riding mower die when put in gear or engage the blades

Check out the grass box safety switch. if not fully depressed it will apply brakes to the blades when in gear. Most mowers are designed with a safety switch to stop the blades, or forward motion if the grass box is not fitted correctly.

I have a craftsman mower with the B&S 21hp Intek OHV motor, it starts fine but when you go to engage the blade or go forward or backward or release the parking brake it will die unless you disengage...

Check the switch on the seat, of all places. There's a safety switch on the seat that will kill the engine if it's not engaged when do anything other than start and run the engine.

If the switch checks out, get back with me.

safety switches that all riding mowers seem to have include a seat/brake safety which means that you have to be sitting in the seat or the brake must be engaged for it to start. also there is the blade engaged safety, which means the mower will not start normally with the blades engaged.
if you meet those conditions check the switches themselves
non safety related, do you hear a click or a clunk when you turn the key to the start position, this is the starting coil pulling in to send power from the battery to the engine starter, all safety switches will interupt power from the key switch to the starting coil
if you hear the coil energize and the engine does not start you have low battery voltage or loose connection or some other mechanical problem

All the mower will do is click when trying to start. Battery is fine I took out and had it checked

starter solenoid, switch ,starter, fuse, or one of the safety switches--seat,blade engage satety, need to check the wiring or connections but start with the inline fuse than solenoid these two are the most common problem after a dead battery

Cub cadet 2135 wont start

check for a fuse behind the ignition
it might be blown
then i would check the starter solenoid
if you put a screwdriver accross the bolts that hold the wire from the starter and ignition switch and it tries to start there's ur problem.

Older Craftsman 43" 17 HP Briggs

Check to make sure battery is above 12.3 volts, secondly bypass the solenoid to the starter by using jumper cables and see if the starter works, if so, you sureley have a safety switch problem, I beleive you have five on this model,
good luck

Yard machine riding mower will not start

check all of your known safety switches!
Clutch has to be pushed in
seat switch (sit on mower)
blade disengage switch
Finally check your starter soleniod between the battery and the starter and look for fuses and check them out in the process

Starter motor won't activate

Had the mower blades engaged and there must have been a safety switch engaged.
