SOURCE: LENS ERROR

there does now seem to be a problem with these particular cameras. i work in a camera shop and have had a number of these returned to me with the same problem you all seem to be having. i have now been told that they are no longer being sold by nikon and you should all return them to place of purchase for a replacement or refund. even if you have no receipt your approximate purchase date can be obtained from the serial number. good luck

Hi!
It sounds like the lens focus is stuck. If you don't have experience in camera repairs, you should give it for a repair to your local Nikon service center or other camera service center.

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras, and it can be caused by dirt, dust, grit, or dropping, among other things.

There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here:

SOURCE: can nikon colpix S210 be used for webcam.

You can't. The S210 was designed as a camera, storing high-resolution pictures (and videos) to a memory card. It was not designed to stream low-resolution videos live to another device.

Lens error once i open the camera,

This error message indicates that there is a problem with the lens motor mechanism for the camera. I would contact Nikon customer service to see how much it would cost for them to repair your camera. You may find however that at this point it would much cheaper to just buy a new camera.
One thing to try before contacting Nikon on repairs is either try recharging or replacing the battery. It's possible that there is not enough electricity to turn the motor elements of the lens, and thus causing the "lens error".

My nikon coolpix s210 shows lens error

Hey digi_5

This is a common problem with Nikon and it isn't covered under warranty since Nikon sees it as an error resulting from usage. Apparently, the Coolpix is pretty delicate and any slight bump can cause a lens error.

Some people have tried gently twisting the camera lens back into place or gently tapping/bumping the side of camera.

If neither of those work, I'd say try getting the camera repaired professionally - if it isn't covered by Nikon, they'll charge you heavily. I've used Teleplan Camera Repair before and they're cheap compared to other places.

I've heard that once the camera is fixed, turn it to the Playback mode before turning it off - it apparently helps avoid the problem altogether.

Try cleaning any grit out of the lens mechanism with compressed air and a little wiggling of the lens. If that doesn't do it, the camera needs servicing.

S210 Lens Error

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced or replaced.

Hi onikaassing, A very common problem in all the brands "lens error". The remedy is that you have to replace the lens block assembly. Actueally the sled motor start malfunctioning, Contact nikon service centre maybe they have the component level repair facility which can reduce the repair cost. Thanks for using fixya.

My camera worked fine one day, then it was in my purse. When I went to use it the light was on and the screen said there was a lens error. Everytime I try to turn it on now it makes a grinding noise and...

try these:-
  • connect it to pc and on it
  • vaccum the barrel of lens
  • changing mem. card and batt. for 2min.
  • shake it.
  • on and off in different positions
  • hit the part near lens softly with palm (trust me this made mine work)

Nikon S200 Lens stuck inside

I had the same issue with my S210, so after reading other people's advice to send it in to Nikon and since that was going to probably cost me as much as the camera itself I figured it wouldn't hurt to try a little something. The lens on mine was a hair off center or had been pushed in on one side (barely - looking at yours you may be able to tell which side) - mine was in my purse also. So, I took my handy dandy skinny prying instrument (normal kitchen butter knife) took the battery out to make it try to open again, then when I popped the battery in as the lens tried to push out I pried the side I thought was a little lower back towards center...I heard a little pop and it worked! The lens came all of the way out and it's all good.

So, use gentle hands and try if you want, but don't think I warranty this!
