You may want to check to see if the holes is connected tightly to the cuff on both ends and you need to check the bulb if it has a knob on it because some bulbs have numbers on them which can be set to release air and you want to make sure that it has a proper setting on and if that is not it then you may need a new bulb, i did. i hope this works for you and good luck!

Sphygmomanometer

I take it the device is either auto or manual. If it uses batteries, they may be exhausted. Or, there is a valve that may be open. It looks like a shiny metal thing near the bulb. Or that valve might be defective, and it just doesn't shut properly. If that's the case, it should hiss a little bit.

The hose might not be screwed together tightly. There are inexpensive, accurate wrist cuffs for blood-pressure monitoring that work very well. If none of this works, you might pick up one of those.

The needle on the Sphygmomanometer gauge will not return to its zero reading. Otherwise it seems to function correctly.

This will happen sometimes, if the BP Cuff has been dropped and the gauge gets stuck. Have you tried tapping on the gauge with your finger, to get it to return to 0 ? Also. be sure the thumb screw air valve is fully open and the cuff is completely deflated. The gauge is easily replaceable, if necessary. Just contact the manufacturer of your BP Cuff or if you prefer Sphygmomanometer.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a blood pressure sphygmomanometer, how do you take a blood pressure reading and what is normal?

Much easier to go to a store, like Walgreens and get an inexpensive ( like 15 dollars) automatic wrist cuff blood pressure monitor, that will give you accurate and quick readings of your heart rate, and blood pressure, systolic and diastolic, automatically.

The cuff is inflating but is taking a long time to deflate and cutting off the circulation. can this be rectified?

hello
Usually in blood pressure apparatus these type of problems are very common. So do not worry.
Actually when you inflate the cuff the pressure goes into the pipe then unscrewing(mercury bp apparatus) or diflating (digital or manual apparatus) the cuff can release the air. There may be two possibilities that why the your equip is not difflating.
1. either there is a blockage in diflating Knob
2 Or in the pipe
The easiest way is to clean the piping by yourself or take it to the nearest medical appliance store, he will clean it for you.
Good day

While squeezing the bulb it deflates and it is almost impossible to get the numbers to 140. Then it counts and stops at 6 or 7.

Be sure you are sufficiently tightening the air release valve on the side of the bulb assembly. If that's not the case, there is probably a small pin hole in either the rubber tubing, the bulb or the bladder of the cuff.. Also, make sure that all tubing connections are pushed on tight to their respective fittings and that the outer ring of the gauge is tight.

Hope this helped to solve your problem.

More frequently my Omron HEM-780 seems flaky. It would apply pressure and count up to 112-120 then start deflating, then inflating, etc. Then it would count down by units and end up displaying E. It would...

Part of the problem may the the placement of the cuff. Generally, if it's not placed correctly. the cuff will re-inflate trying to find the correct stopping point for inflation. Any movement of your arm could cause this. Also, if you haven't replaced the batteries lately, you should do that. Also check to make sure there are no air leaks in the rubber tubing or the cuff. Check your Owners Manual for the exact placement of the cuff.

The cuff squeezes my arm too much and it hurts. The reading is way too high everytime. I don't know how to adjust it.

do not inflate the cuff too much. if you know your usual blood pressure, just add about 5-10 mmHg when you inflate it so that you won't hurt yourself. for example, if your BP is usually 130/90, squeeze the cuff to 135-140 only. but if you doubt that your BP is way much higher than that by assessing on what you are feeling, just do not squeeze the cuff further than 200.

Readings are too high compared to doctor's readings

There are several reasons for 'too high' readings; the cuff is too small for your arm, the muscles of the arm are not relaxed (squeezes on the blood vessels along with the cuff), arm not elevated to about mid chest level, BP tkaen before 5 minute sit/rest.
You can take your cuff into the doctors office to have it checked by the nurse and compared to theirs, rest 5 minutes ther as well befor taking BP. Their cuff could be too big for you and so would give a false low reading.
If the calibration is off, you will have to return it to the manufacturer - check their web site or call the customer support line.
Congratulations on taking an active role in your health care!
