Xbox 360, playing OK, then screen went green then put itself right, turned it off, went back to it later and all I could get was a black screen with flaoting white dots, could hear that the box had loaded but couldn't see anything, tried using a different Av cable and a differnet Tv, didn't work, is 1 month out of warranty, can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?

Re: Black screen on Xbox 360
Its a similar fault to the 3rrod m8, even though you dont have the 3 red lights it is the very same problem. you need to strip down the 360 and go over the mainboard with a heatgun 2-3 inches away from the board in a circular motion. this re-seats the solder and will fix any faulty connections which may be causing this error.
also what you have described seems to be the memory whats the problem, make sure you spend more time with the heatgun over the memory chips.
you can also buy something called a team xecuter 3rrod repair kit which is basically heatsinks for the memory chips - i would very strongly recommend you buy these they are very good. and with your fault being more than likely memory problems then this would help you a lot.

Make sure the batteries are fully charged. If their not, that could be whats wrong. But other than that, something could be wrong with the connection from the xbox to the controller? Try turning the xbox on, then clicking the little black button near the power button. On the controller theres also a little black button, by where you would put in another battery pack, click that when the xbox has the green line going in circles. If those two don't work, then something could be wrong with the wiring in the controller.
I doubt it's the 360 since everything else is working just fine. The menu works fine, the game works fine. However if you downloaded one of these maps from the marketplace it may be corrupt, and you will have to delete and re-download the map pack.
most likley a cable issue if you are using hdmi make sure its fully homed in same with the others but have you checked the display settings on your xbox? otherwise borrow another cable just to find out
You need to have the problem fixed by Xbox itself. This is a hardware issue and cannot be fixed manually. You might have to spend some money but if you want to play games it's a risk your going to have to take. Try to not turn your system on or off as this may damage it even more or even fry the hardware in it.
no red lights, no previous error msgs, and video output on the box has just died. playing halo yesterday and mid-game the colours went askew (like a green overlay) with horizontal banding, backing out to the dash solved nothing so after a reboot there was simply no video. troubleshooted the tv and cables and its definately the box. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=625804
