Keyboard replacing for advent 7108

Sometime ago my daughter spilt something on her laptop, she took off all the keys and cleaned it up as much as she could. A couple of the keys still stick and some are missing. I know I can probably just replaced the keys but I'm wondering how easy would it be to take off the keyboard, give the underneath a good clean and then replace it with another keyboard.

Can anyone advise me?

Some keys laptop keyboard not working

Have you spilt anything on your keyboard?
First thing to try is to plug in an external keyboard, do all of the keys work as they should?
If they do then we now know for sure it is something to do with the laptop keyboard and not a software fault. You should try cleaning the laptop keyboard, this should only be done with the laptop powered off and the battery removed. The only proper way of cleaning sensitive electronic equipment like this is with compressed air, you can buy cans of these from your local supermarket. Using short controlled blasts, try to remove the dirt from under the keys.

Leave for a short while, put the battery back in, power her up and see if that has sorted it. If not then it may be time to replace the keyboard, here is an instructional video for the R850,

How to replace the keybord on an advent 9517 laptop

Advent laptops are manufactured by DSG International, which owns the names to other name-brand computers such as Acer and Hewlett-Packard.
The Advent laptop keyboard has integrated mouse touch-pad functions that allow you to move the mouse around the screen with your fingers.
Function keys at the top of the board contain alternate ways to exit and enter software applications.

Function Keys
The Advent laptop keyboards function keys are "hot keys" that act as shortcuts to applications and functions on the computer. The function keys sometimes don't work and won't carry out the function assigned to the key. This problem is considered a hardware malfunction, and the solution is to replace the keyboard or use a universal serial bus (USB) keyboard for the laptop. b> Malfunctioning Keys b> Advent keyboards are made of thin plastic. Striking the keys too hard will cause the keys to break or stick awkwardly in the housing unit that supports the keyboard. When these keys get stuck in the housing unit, a pin tool can easily set the keys back on track. If there are too many keys that get stuck or broken, you can purchase a replacement Advent keyboard and have it installed. b> Mouse Problems b> The mouse is located at the bottom of the Advent keyboard but is connected to the keyboard data strip that sends information through the keyboard unit to move the mouse on the screen. If the mouse malfunctions, check the connector under the keyboard to see if it is loose. A loose connector can cause the mouse or other keys not to function on the laptop. b> Electrical Shortage b> An electrical shortage can cause an Advent keyboard not to work properly. A shortage is when the main board of the laptop is not getting the voltage needed to efficiently operate the computer. When this happens, certain devices underperform or become inoperable. Check to see if your power supply is extremely hot or if your system heats up around the keyboard. If so, replace the electrical adapter. b> Wire Damage From Keystrokes b> The wire that is responsible for the liquid crystal display (LCD) on the Advent laptop extends from under the middle of the keyboard to the LCD display unit. This wire is unprotected and can be damaged from striking the keys over the wire. When this happens, the display will not show the correct colors or the screen will go black. To eliminate this problem, purchase a keyboard cover that fits the keys to relieve the pressure between the keyboard and video cable. b> Keyboard Drivers b> Problems have been reported with upgrades from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Windows 7 will not recognize the system drivers that operate the Advent keyboard. To get the keyboard to work, you must load the old drivers in Windows 7 Safe mode, which is used anytime there is a hardware or software discrepancy. Advent keyboard drivers can be loaded from the original restore CD, which is included with the system at the time of purchase.

Spilt water on keyboard acer aspire 5542, while it was turned on, some keys have stopped Working. can this be fixed or does it need replaced?

Matthew.,

Before you declare the keyboard dead and unusable please do the following. Use the hairdryer without heat to blow cold air into the keyboard. This will remove all traces of water that may be shorting the keys. Do it for quite sometime as you have to ensure that there is no water left under the keys.

All the best

Hello, my keys on the keyboard are acting up. The'j' key gives me the space bar and some of them dont give me anything...i can't even type in my username to get on

Hi, this can happen sometimes, the keyboard gets dirty or has something spilt on it. If you are confident, you can remove clean and replace, but if not I would get a shop to put a new keyboard in.
Sorry this is not straight forward

Keys are sticking the keyboard. Can i clean underneath the keys?

Depending upon how sticky the keys are, it might be easier to buy a cheap replacement keyboard.  Trust me, it takes a whole lot of patience and a steady hand to take apart the keyboard key by key and then put it back together.

Replacing keyboard for advent 7108 laptop

I have had the same problem several times over and it is VERY likely that the liquid has reached other components (specifically the motherboard) and will corrode anything that the liquid has come to rest on. The keyboard itself is easy enough to remove and replace, but the only place I am finding parts for advents is in the UK. This means replacement of the keyboard COULD be costly and in the long run the computer may fail due to corrosion especially if it was pop or juice or any other acidic liquid. Here is the link I found for a possible solution.  http:/www.adventspares.co.uk  if they dont have it, these guys might... http://www.techno-mart.co.uk/advent.html
Good luck, and I hope you havent damaged your motherboard! Kirk
