Question about HP Officejet Pro L7680 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

Operates fine, than all of a sudden, the printer disappears.

It can not be found when the printer dialog box opens and it is nolonger in the Printer/Fax folder on the control panel.

The Microsoft image writer is now shown as the default printer. After install, it works fine for a few hours and it disappears again.

The problem started 2 days ago, after 3 months of normal operation.

The suggestion was right on target! Everyting is now working fine.

I did not install all of the software the last time around, as the HP Solution Center was a continual problem. I believe that there was a conflict either with Windows XP and/or Adobe Photoshop on which program was going to handle scanned images.

The HP printers are great. Hower, in my opinion, their software leaves much to be desired.

That sounds a lot like the driver software is unsuccessful in installing or you have something like anti-virus or anti-spyware that is stopping the installation from completing all it's stages successfully.

Try downloading the latest version of the software then disconnecting from the internet before temporarily disabling your anti-virus and anti-spyware software and THEN installing the driver again.

As a general rule it's better to have the printer unplugged from the computer while you do this and then plug in when prompted...

The computer will want to reboot and finish the install so do this when prompted and make a note of any errors you receive if you get any.

Hope this helps.

LOL... You're not wrong about the software... I find myself desiring a clue stick and the opportunity to apply it to their software developers... Glad it helped.

Epson DX4850 problem getting ink levels to highlight using Vista

Checking the level of ink in an Epson printer can be done without having to remove the ink cartridges. This method works on black and white as well as color inkjet printers. Checking the level of ink can help you plan ahead when buying new cartridges
Instructions:
  • Install the Epson StatusMonitor software. This program comes on the CD included with the printer. It can also be downloaded from the Epson Web site. or from http://download.cnet.com/Epson-Status-Monitor-2/3000-2116_4-10024738.html
  • Open the Epson StatusMonitor program in any application (such as word processing, spreadsheets or Web browsers) that allows you to print. Click on the "File" menu tab in the control bar of the application
  • Select print or page setup from the "File" menu. A dialog box will open. In that box, click on the "StatusMonitor" icon, which will open the "Epson StatusMonitor" dialog box. Also, you can click on the "Utility" icon and then the "Epson StatusMonitor" button from the "Utility" dialog box.
  • Click on the "Update" button to update the display (if you do not think these levels are accurate) when the "Epson StatusMonitor" dialog box displays the relative ink levels for each cartridge in the printer.
  • Go back to the "Print" dialog box to change the way that the StatusMonitor utility monitors your printer and ink levels. Click on the "Utility" button again.
  • Click on the "Configuration" button in the "Utility" dialog box. The open "Configuration" dialog box will let you adjust settings such as ink level warnings and ink level monitoring before each printing.
