Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

1 Answer

Upgrading Thermostat This is the old thermostat SECO TA2000 (non-programmable) The wiring for the SECO TA2000 is as follows: W2 = White wire O = Orange wire R = Red wire Y = Yellow wire G = Green wire E = has a jumper to W2 Other then the color of the wire, I can not tell what the function is. I want to install a honeywell RTH2310B (programmable) The Honeywell terminals are marked as follows: heating power supply Rh = (has a factory jumper wire to Rc) ??? cooling power supply Rc = (has a factory jumper wire to Rh) ??? heating W = ??? White ??? cooling signal Y = ??? Yellow ??? fan G = ??? Green ??? If I can identify the function of the wire on the TA2000 I could wire the Honeywell thermostat with no problem.

Looks like your system is a heatpump system and that t-stat will not run a heatpump , you need a t-stat for 2heat and 1 cool systems

the black wire is your common wire, you need to program your thermostat, in the advance mode, to tell the t-stat if your heat pump reversing valve is energized on cooling or heating, is the orange wire connected to your t-stat.= w2/o/b

W and W2 wiring on old thermostat...where do they go on the new thermostat?

It depends on the equipment you are connecting the thermostat to. If you have a heat pump, the thermostat must be wired differently than if you have separate heating and cooling equipment. If you have a two-stage or modulating furnace (or boiler), the w and w2 wires will conect for heating, and the y and g wires will connect to the air conditioner. Naturally, some configuring must be done with the new thermostat so that it acts correctly. w-w2-wiring-old-thermostat-go-new-u40lsvyytnuesyuv3fbafhtd-1-0.jpg

Need wiring diagram for Honeywell RCT8100

The old thermostat has a second stage heat which is W2. The new one doesn't have second stage heat.
The wiring your describing on the old thermostat is telling me you have a heat pump with second stage heat and the new thermostat is for air conditioning only. You will need to get a thermostat for a heat pump.

Wc wiring on thermostat

sounds like you have a heat pump the w2 on old thermostat is for a second stage heat. If you can give me a little more information on type of system you have (forced air furnace with heat/cool, Heat pump or boiler)? How many wires are on old thermostat? Is it a no programmable or programmable? How old is the furnace?

both thermostatats will have terminal designators R,W,Y,G, possibly O/B, C, W1,W2, Y1, Y2, etc.
Simplest method is to remove wires from old stat one at a time. mark where they came from and then install at same desinated terminal on the new t-stat. Hope this helps. be sure to shut off power supply to the unit (furnace) first. The wire coming to the R (RH,RC) terminal is the 24 volt a/c hot, all others are feeding back to perform given function.

Thermostat Wiring: W2? E? Where to connect?

You have a heat pump. You need a thermostat for "Heat pump with Electric back-up heat". Make sure the 'stat has either an "aux" (auxilliary heat) or an "E"(Emergency heat) terminal. The wiring instructions will be provided with the thermostat.
