My name is Julie and I wanted to know if anyone has the same phone and can help me. Yesturday, My phone was dead pretty much the whole day. I don't think it got in water... but it may have been out in the rain. I tried charging it and it says USE GENUINE BATTERY. I have no idea what that means. I put a new battery in the phone and it still says it. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
I should add that if your phone IS dead and you don't have insurance, consider eBay for a replacement. I have purchased a couple of immaculate used LG 8300's for just over $100 each -- versus Verizon's $300. With the $50 deductible, monthly fee, and hassles, the insurance is not such a great deal.

Actually, there are MANY stories on the web of people reviving these LG phones even after being dunked in water, beer, paint, etc. The mositure indicators are a poor guide. Google "use genuine battery" & LG. Fixes into include drying the phone out and shorting the contacts at the charger connector. I have NOT been able to get my phone going again but am convinced it is often possible. Good luck!

JJulie, I had a similiar problem with my phone (lg vx8300) where it would show a white screen saying "use genuine battery" and then power off automatically. Although there was no contact with liquid, there were signs of water damage (high humidity in my area, camera lens had some moisture) on the battery and phone. If you open the battery door, look at the bottom edge of the battery (where positive and negative posts are), and the spot on the phone located where the battery would line up with this dot. If either/both dots are red, then there has been liquid damage, and you will need to replace the phone. I understand that this is not good news, for me it meant that I had to pay to replace the entire unit. Check to see if you have insurance with your phone plan to get a lower cost replacement. Sorry for your loss, and hope this helped.
