Samsung 215TW Monitor Flicker

I have a Samsung 215TW SyncMaster 21 inch Analog/Digital LCD monitor that flickers when I turn it on. The flickering slowly becomes less and less until after a 30-40 seconds the scren is perfectly normal. This also happens when I am away from the computer and the screen has gone to black... I press a key, the screen turns on and flickers for awhile then it's fine. The monitor is 1 year old and I have had no other problems with it.

Any idea what the problem is?

I have the exact same problem. My Samsung 226 BW (R) S LCD/digital/analog is a 23 incher, I've owned it for a year and a half (made January 2007). The flickering started a month ago. Curiously, it flickers only when I boot up after it's cold. If I restart, for example, and monitor is still warm, no flickering. The length of time it takes to return to normal keeps getting longer. Now, it takes 5 to 7 minutes to stop flickering.

When the monitor comes out of sleep mode it flickers then goes black. Only a coold reboot of the PC returns it to normal.

Same issue with the SyncMaster 215tw. Happens on cold starts only. I have updated the drivers and tried it on a different comp with the same results. The problem is getting worse and takes longer to stabilize.

I've got exactly the same. Started about a month ago for no apparent reason - i used to be able to fix it by turning it on and off randomly after booting my computer, then pulling out the cables etc.. the flickering increases in frequency and brightness until either - maintaining a steady horrible bright/dark fast flicker or going black. If I leave my computer on for days, no problem whatsoever. Any ideas?

Just started happening. This is not a slight flicker; this is unreadable.

Its the capacitors on the backlight power supply. Samsung installed crappy ones and they blow up after a year or two. Change out the caps and you're good to go

The screen flicker is a common issue with this series of Samsung monitors that have been in use for several years. This is an indication that the capacitors in the power supply board are failing. The capacitors are used to filter and smooth out the voltages coming out of the power supply board and when they strt to fail they can't filter the power so the voltage varies and this causes the picture ti flicker. The problem will get worse over time until the monitor will not power up. The power supply board is easily repairable and here is a link to a service guide that shows how to dis-assemble the unit and what to look for and replace. The guide is for the 214T but the power supply board is the same NP-20 board.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Samsung syncmaster 215tw will only display faint blue screen-no images.

Check for a failure of the capacitors on the power supply board. This is a common problem with these units and its a very easy repair. Here is a link to a repair guide for the SyncMaster 214T which uses the ame power supply board so the repair information would be the same for the 2 units.

I hope this helps,

The backligt stay fickers contineu

Flickering or wavy picture is a very common symptom of failing capacitors in the power supply board. This is a very easy repair, it just requires replacing the 6 capacitors on the power supply board. Here is a link to a repair guide for the SyncMaster 214T which uses the same NP-20 power supply board so the repair information will be the same.

I hope this helps,

My Samsung SyncMaster 215tw stays in power saving mode with the blue power button flashing and won't turn on.

I'd verify all the cable connections first.

You could be dealing with two different problems, bad monitor, or a bad videocard/pc.

I'd swap the monitor out to verify that the computer is working as it should first. Once you determine that the PC is in fact fine, my suggestion would be to change the resolution on the PC to a lower setting then normal. Once that is done Plug the Samsung SyncMaster 215tw back into the pc and see if it powers on.

If it does not, i'd check the cables and swap them with something else to make sure thats not the problem. If you have another PC available, i'd test the monitor on that PC to make sure that it is not the issue.

After all that you'll come to the determination on what the problem is. Sadly, if the LCD is bad you'll have to replace it as they are extremely expensive to repair and generally not worth it.

However, i'd verify if it is under warranty or not, you never know! you might be able to get it fixed for free :D

When I play some games on my syncmaster 215tw, the screen goes black after 5 minutes. I have to reboot everytime to get the screen back on. The blue light flashes but i cant do nothing until i reboot....

that means your VGA is not big enough to run the game. This problem is not from the monitor but your system.I suggest an upgrade in your system to enhance better performance.

Samsung syncmaster 215tw monitor flickering

The capacitors BigTech referred to are C110 & C111, 820uf-25V Electrolytic, on the power supply board.

With minor soldering skills, you can replace them with Radio Shack in-store capacitors, Stock # 272-1032, 1000uf-50V Radial Lead Electrolytics for $1.59 each. Works great!

Four bucks and little bit of time saves the monitor.
