Check your display settings.
Settings, Phone, Display:
Check that Light Timeout is set (I have mine setup for 20 seconds).
This should do the trick.
If you wish to conserve yet more battery power, set "sleep mode" to on and set a power saver timeout (mine is set to 1 minute).

okay this is what you gotta do unscrew the back of your PDA and you will see your two batteries and some stickers, in between the batteries there is a rectangle. take your screw driver and push the little bars inside the rectangle back. this will unlock your screen. if it still doesn't work hold the on button and press reset this will delete everything but also turn it on. if it still doesn't work throw PDA at wall, save up money, and get an IPad.

Open the Task Manager (top right corner icon), clicked
on the “tool” icon, then the “button” tab, and changed the “Enable the X
button to end running programs,” selection form “End programs by
tapping and holding X” to “End programs by tapping X.” Now, when you tap
the “X” to close a program, it actually closes, and frees up more
system memory. The same result can be achieved by tapping and holding
the “X”, rather than changing the setting, if preferred. The objective
is to CLOSE the programs and free up the memory.

faded screens are always a bad sign usually, it indicates light water damage on the motherboard. other times, it's significant of a ruined lcd screen or both Regretfully, water damage is almost impossible to repair you could try putting the device in a bag of rice for two days and see if that fixes it. I highly doubt it will though
