Question about Western Digital NetCenter WDXE3200JBN 320 GB Network Hard Drive

Western Digital NetCenter crashed

I've tried to upload a new firmware. It is supposed to switch off after 2 or 3 minutes during upgrade. This one powered off immediatelly after I pressed 'upgrade'. I waited at least 30 minutes before touching it (recomendation says about 5 minutes). Now it responds(ping) to its original IP, but nothing else. Not even the power LED lights. Is there any way to upload the firmware without the web GUI?

Re: Western Digital NetCenter crashed

I have a dead one as well - won't power on. I took it apart and found that there's a DR1220 button-cell battery on the underside of the main board. It should be 3V but only shows .6V on my meter. I'll swap it out and update my post if the problem is solved.

Re: Western Digital NetCenter crashed

Umm... it sounds bad. If you can't get the unit to power back on after your performed the firmware update, it may have power failed during the update... and "bricked" it. Try a different power source and see if you can get it to at least power up. If it won't, there is probably no way of recovering it. I'd suggest contacting Western Digital to see if they have a recovery process for a firmware failure. Is it still within the warranty period?

Installed 2 - 1 gb ddr2 pc2-5300 667 mhz dual channel memory kit matched pair memory sticks in my imac model 7,1 20 inch computer and it will not boot - I tried using them one at a time and neither worked...

I'm afraid it has to do with Apple's firmware on iMacs. A compatible 3rd party memory dealer is RAMJET.
From their website, you can see:
Apple Computers have proven too demanding for generic PC memory modules. Apple users have been forced to either pay Apple's high prices for upgrades, or buy 3rd party modules and be subjected to system crashes, boot failures, and sub-par performance. Worse still, most 3rd party vendors had no idea that Apple machines demanded a higher standard.
At Ramjet, we start with modules built 100% to Apple's original specifications, but we don't stop there. In our compatibility center, we have a comprehensive array of Apples, every platform built since 1996. Other memory companies try to test for Apple compatibility using generic RAM module testers, whereas we test our RAM in the same Mac you're upgrading.

Hi florent_elev, what i did was create a volume and then ran the firmware update. This worked for me and it took me to firmware version 1.0.0_2569. It was about 3 to 5 minutes to complete.

Wd netcenter crash

Any hard drive once away from an enclosure, becomes just another hard drive to use as you see fit. You'll just have to access it through control panel > administrative tools > computer management > disc management. From there you can reformat, etc.

WD mybook 1TB is gone from the network

Have you tried different cables or a different port on your router. Is there any way to get into the Hard Drive by connecting it directly to a PC and checking the network settings or anything..? If not, then you may have to connect it directly to a PC and share it to your other PC's.

Problems with Western Digital My Book World Edition

I have the same drive. It works great with windows XP but with Windows vista has difficulty seeing this type of drive and keeping the connection once it is established. Take it back if you have windows vista and then search for which 1TB drives work well with windows vista. It really has problems with windows vista 64bit. I was able to finally see the drive when I was using photoshop file/browse/network... then I dragged the shortcut Icon to my desktop and access the drive that way from that point on. Mine stopped completely tonight... I think the power cord went bad or something.

Can't see the folders after restarting SS400-e

If you check their website, you will find:
Upgrading from a previous version of the firmware (to version 1.4) is a “data destructive” process.
it is strongly recommended that you first backup your existing data to another system in your environment. It is also recommended that you understand your current configuration of users, groups and shares to be able to recreate this under the 1.4 firmware.

Error message

Is this a new install or upgrade? Check the thumb switch on the JBOD enclosures and make sure they're all set sequentially down the daisy chain. The one closest electrically (not necessarily physically) has to be set to 1 and so on. Make sure the drive and controller firmware are current too... an "armdsp -a " will tell you what they are. If you're in the US, call 800-633-3600 Options 1 > 2 and use "VA disk array on HPUX" as your keyword. They can help you with getting it updated.
