Question about Tomtom GO 700 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Tom Tom One XL Will not recognise map

Sim came out of its slot and on replacing it I was asked for language, handing, time format and voice selection. On selecting the voice it just recycles after a few moments and asks the same again.

I have tried reset and in Tom Tom home the map is shown as present on the SIM.

I had the same problem and solved by accident:
use Tomtom Home>>Operate my device, beneth the simulated screen there is an option to "set current position", click it and manage to configure voice selection, choose any and go back.
unplug your tomtom and it should be working again

HOW DO I GET MY TOM TOM XL TO THE ENGLISH MODE

  • In driving view, tap the map to bring up the main menu.
  • Locate the "Preferences" icon (looks like a wrench) and tap it.
  • Cycle through the menu pages until you see an icon with three flags (UK, German, Dutch) and tap it.
  • Select English from the list. When you change the language, you are also given the opportunity to change the voice.

TOm TOm XL 340s and it does not announce street names

hi, it wont announce street names if you have the human voice selected. you must use the computer generated voice du,b as it sounds, thats the way it is.

go tp the change voice option and select a computer generated voice and try again..it should prompt you that you have selected one or the other.

if this fails, let me know and i can give you something else to try

Does not recognise the sd card

This is a common error ans is usually caused by the card not being formatted correctly

A card reader/writer on you PC is the best option

If you can plug the card in somewhere other than into the Tom Tom.
Even a card reader attached to the PC vai a USB cable will work

The computer will see the tomtom as a USB drive that can be accessed like a flash drive.

You need to format it either as "FAT or "FAT16" using the reader
In either my computer or windows explorer right click on the card (propably listed as removable drive)

Select FORMAT and use one of the FAT options above.

Plug your tomtom into the pc but don't run the tomtom home software
If the tom tom asks if you want to connect to computer say yes
Now Simply copy all of the files on your tomtom to the new card.

Once you finish doing the copy, you should be able to insert the card
If you need to add any maps voices etc then disconnect the tomtom from the pc and start the tomtom home software, then connect the tom tom to the pc.

Many tom toms will accept up o a 4gb card (but not micro versions)

I am in Australia, have used tomtom xl first time last week. I am going to USA in 7 days does it have usa maps in it, if not where do I download them from.

Install the software that came with the TOM TOM then connect it with the USB cable that came with it. It will automatically take you to http://www.tomtom.com/, then you can buy and download maps directly to your Tom Tom.

How to format the internal memory, then you can just reinstall the software and maps.
  1. Click My Computer and right-click the Removable Disk for your TomTom device and then click Format.

  2. Make sure FAT32 is selected under File system.

  3. Do not tick Quick Format.

  4. Click Start.

  5. Click OK.
    Windows formats your device.
