No disk for WRT54GS

I was given a new WRT54GS with all cables but no disk and box said run disk first. So now I need either a disk or freedownload of software and drivers which I guess are on the disk along with setup notes.

Where is best place to get this stuff free?

thank you

I set these routers up all of the time.
First thing I do is throw away the CD, it prevents the customer from ever inserting it.
If you are running XP or VISTA use the Microsoft built in wireless configuration.
You almost have to do nothing if you are using a cable internet provider and even DSL requires little or no configuration if the modem handles the PPPOE login.
Bu default the wireless connection is open.
Go to linksys.com for support if you do not know how to setup WPA2 wireless security.
All of the information you need is readily available at LINKSYS.COM

Good Luck

Could be your router is slowly going bad. Sounds like time to buy a new one. WRT54GS is pretty old at this point in time.

I have a new Linksys router WRT54gs and a new Dell laptop.
The router works well with the cable attached but when I go to wireless
I get a strong signal but unable to get on the internet with WEP security.
With security disabled the wireless works fine. But will not connect to the
internet with WEP security on. I tried to use the CD install disk that comes
with the router but ir does not help.
Any help would be apreciated

I was given a router but i dont have install disk linksys model wrt54g how can i install it

no install disk is needed
Connect the Router (Up link to modem, Port 1 to computer) Boot computer, you should get an IP address in the range of 192.168.1.xxx Open a browser (IE/Firefox etc) on the address line type 192.168.1.1 press enter You will be prompted for a username and password. Leave the username blank, password= admin Once logged into the router, you can set the wireless settings then save and then you can connect via wireless. For Wireless security codes, you can use the default suggested by the router, or as I recommend, use an old 10 digit phone number as WPA key 8009993355 for example as it is generally hard to guess but easy to remember.

I have been running a Linksys BEFSR41 version 2 wired router for over 5 years without any problems. My wife is a teacher and her school p[urchased new laptops recently so I decided to go wireless. Got on...

I think the most likely problem is that both routers are using different IP address ranges and won't allow data to pass between them.
I suggest you use only the Linksys wireless router.

Trying to Install a wireless router WRT54GS; ISP Cox Cable

I don't know what type of internet connection you have. If you have cable internet connection, you can copy the mac address of your modem to your router - that's what you call, cloning. If you have DSL connection, you can just obtain an IP Address from the modem to the router. If it's an Internet connection that is requires authentication, you can use the PPPoE type of connection. You can configure your router to any of the mentioned configuration above.
