If this does not happen often, it could be your internet provider. I can sometimes unplug my modem and router and fix this. However, if this continues, you may need to contact your ISP or look into a new router. Believe it or not, your internet company can be pretty handy in getting you re-connected.

The DNS error on my PS3 from LINKSYS

your wireless network should be configured to NOT broadcast the SID and a WEP key. Then after entering the address of the router manually in the network setup on the PS3, you will able to obtain an ip address from the router

if wireless how much % of signal do you have?, does it do it all the time? what router are you using? some routers have to be set diferently than normal in order for you to be able to play. change your ps3 IP adress one number up exanmple if its 192.168.10.172 change it to 192.168.10.173 or try this link if you have a linksys router it seem common for that router to get that error-http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=psnetwork&thread.id=116102

I cant play my ps3 online

HI,

NOW YOU SHOULD HAVE IT FIXED!!!
I know THE SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM (when you use LINKSYS WRT54G) don't know of this works out for other too but give it a try !!

I've spend hours on this looking.. but I'll spare you my life story..

The first thing you do is look up the MAC-adress of your ps3 which can be found in your network configurations pannel.
once you found this you note this somewhere on a sheet of paper.
Next you go to your linksys router (on your pc)
You can acces this by typing 192.168.1.1 in your browser.
when you are there search were you can fill in a MAC-adress and replace the one you've got by the one of your ps3 (on sheet of paper)

OK so far so good. Then you will have a NAT-type 2 instead of 3 (which means that you don't have to fill in your configurations like DNS and Ip-adress manually) So this you don't get a DNS error.

Then go to network configurations on your ps3 and use simple or advanced (I don't think this makes a difference =) )
But I took simple. Next set everything on automatic. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT THAT YOU USE THE RIGHT WEP-key (which can also be found in your router configurations)
=> (192.168.1.1 in browser and settings) or ask me if you don't find this

And don't use proxy server or UpNp (the last one makes no difference with me)
ENJOY THE ONLINE PARADISE GAMING AND DOWNLOADING OF PS3!!

If problem still persists, let me know!!

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and h!!ave a nice day!!

Dns error (80710102) on my ps3. It works wirelessly fine (but weak signal causes glitches) - but when I use a wired connection it will sometimes work fine for an hour or so and then kick me off the network...

I had the same problem and tried every solution. On the linksys website for my router they said to update the firmware. I did, enabled upnp and everythings good. Just reset you ps3 internet connection, set it to auto and let it do its thing.

Unable to download system upgrade version 2.60

SETTINGS > NETWORK SETTINGS > INERNET CONNECTION SETTINGS > WIRED CONNECTION OR WIRELESS > WIRED CONNECTION > CUSTOM > MANUAL SETTINGS > AUTO DETECT > AUTOMATIC > DO NOT SET > MANUAL ( DNS1 : 208.67.222.222 , DNS2 : 208.67.220.220 ) > AUTO > DO NOT USE > ENABLE > X > X WIRELESS > ENTER MANUALLY > ( ENTER SSID OR CONTINUE ) > ( CHOOSE SECURITY OR CONTINUE ) > CUSTOM > AUTO > DO NOT SET > MANUAL ( DNS1 : 208.67.222.222 , DNS2 : 208.67.220.220 ) > AUTO > DO NOT USE > ENABLE > X > X I thought I should clarify my experience one last time in hopes that it may help someone. I was able to connect fine for a month before the 1.50 update and then things got really wierd. I have gone through entire days unable to connect to the network and entire days able to connect. Meanwhile I had full use of the PS3 internet browser and no other computer or internet issues. I can currently confirm that if I return my PS3 internet settings the original "automatic" settings I will not be able to connect, with these DNS settings in the PS3 I have no problems. I have cable internet access through Adelphia with a Linksys WRT54GS router communicating wirelessly with my PS3... GOOD LUCK!
The information I used to create this fix contained a link that has provided us with router specific DNS information to be used if the numbers provided do not work. http://www.opendns.com/start/at_home.php
Now, a day later, I am able to connect with the original automatic settings for everything including DNS. I must also point out that the network performance is much faster using the automatic settings and recommend using alternate DNS settings only when neccessary.

All I can say for those still having problems is reboot EVERYTHING. Your router, modem, PS3 and any other device that may be connected to your network.

If you still have problems try connecting the ps3 directly to your modem not through the router...

DNS error when connecting PS3 to internet

you could try getting a wifi adapter and creating an access point, you can connect that way if your ps3 has wifi I have a laptop with windows XP Pro and have been trying that my desktop PC with Vista Home can see it.
MY Components:
-Desktop PC with Vista Home (Main PC, connected to Internet with Ethernet to a Linksys Wireless Router B and G).
-Get internet thru cable TV (broadband),from this cable modem plugs to router and from router to PC Vista(desktop)
-Linksys Wireless G/B Router
-G-Card for my Laptop Windows XP Pro and
-Playstation 3 capable of sharing info and use printer

At the moment all of them have internet w different IP's (000.000.0.001, 000.000.0.002,etc.). What I want to achieve is that I can use the Printer that is connected via USB to my PC Vista (desktop) and share files. Right now the only thing been able to do is that my PC Vista see my Laptop but Can't find my PC on my laptop. Anybody, Help?
-When I turn On my media sharing in my PS3, my internet on Laptop loses it while PS3 search and find, then, because laptop lost wireless, the PS3 looses the laptop and I get wireless back. I knowis a stupid setting but tired of workin back n forth. Thanks

Finally the DNS problems I had with connecting my PS3 to my network has been resolved. I have LinkSys wireless router which is working perfectly for other devices (like laptop, Xbox360, TiVO). My wireless network is configured to NOT broadcast the SID and with a WEP key. After entering this manually in the network setup on my PS3, I was able to obtain an ip address from my router, I was able to open the configureation page on my router, but connecting to the internet would fail with some kind of DNS error. The way this was resolved for me (and I know someone else mentioned it in an other post here), was to enter the DNS server addresses manually in the PS3 network settings AND use tetertiary DNS server from my ISP as either the primary or the secondary DNS server. Voila... I am upgrading my PS3 software as I write this.... ..btw, this also fixed the similar problem I had with my PSP.. Thanks!

Random DNS Error

You may need to manually configure your PS3 connection on the console. Let's see.. I can suggest to first go to your Settings Menu -> Network Settings -> Choose:"Settings and Connection Status List" this will display a pretty detailed information about your connection to your local gateway (router).. Check specifically for Primary and Secondary DNS. In my experience, using the PS3's auto setup for the connection seems to enter the default gateway's ip (labeled "Default Router" on PS3 Status Screen) in place of the real DNS entries..

Question
: Sooo how do you check your primary/secondary DNS for your network? Answer: On your PC, open a web browser and enter your default gateway ip into the browser.. log into your router (assistance can be found in your router manual or by calling your router manufacture). You should see a status page of sorts that displays your ISP's primary/secondary DNS entries.. Simply transfer those two IPs to your PS3 manually to correct the DNS issue.

Hopefully that should resolve your issue!

PS3 says DNS error (80710102) when i try to connect to the internet with a wired connection

for mine i tried other fixes and they didn't work. Turns our my router had enabled security but the PS3 had forgotten the password (WEP key).

I turned off the WEP on my router and the PS3 suddenly found its connection.

To say I was getting stressed is an understatement, Sony should put something on their website, it seems like a really commonm problem to which people have no clear route to solution.
