Question about HP Presario R3140US (DZ357U#ABA) PC Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop only works with charged battery..

R3140US. The problem is it does not charge the battery because the jack for the powerline is loose or broken. It no longer turns on because the charge will not go through. It would work if it had a recharged battery. The input for the powerline is no good.

My question is can I fix this? Sorry..

Thank you for your reply, the ac adapter is fine however I'm wondering if something inside the laptop enables the laptop to charge.. You said I should send it in but is there maybe something I could buy on ebay and replace myself?

I should have been more specific.. Thank you..

You can buy a new power adapter, the part that recharges your battery, you just have to look for the correct Hz and Wattage on your adapter...for instance it will say 60Hz 40W. Buy the exact same amount at Lowes, Home Depot or order it off the manufacturers website.

If you are talkinb about the jack that is inside your computer, yes it can still be fixed but you will have to send if off to your manufacturer. It should not take them very long, just have to put a new one in...If yo have any questions or more explanantion just send me a request and I will take care of it for you.

Well yes you could, it's just a jack. If you have no fear of opening your notebook. If you google "power jack repair laptop" there is a ton of sites on how to do it yourself. I just don't recommend it to people because I don't know what there experience is, and if I say go ahead an change it yourself and they screw it up then they get mad at me...so sure go for it...its a power jack and you could probably find a YouTube doing it...good luck. Let me know if you have any problems.

Plugged in not charging

There could be several things wrong. You could have a broken DC jack on your motherboard. To prove this, wiggle the DC jack with the adapter plugged in. If the charging light comes on when you wiggle the jack, then your jack is broken. You could also have a defective AC adapter.

I cant able to on my laptop when is not connected with ac adapter, but when is connected it starts power on but shows plug in not charging?please help me?

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Will not charge

laptop plugged in not charging:

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.

2. Make sure your toshiba power cord is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.

3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.

4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.

5. The power button could be bad

6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

Acer aspire 5740 no power

Hello,

It sounds lie the charger jack in the laptop is broken. When you installed the new battery the laptop had power to run several hours but once the battery drained it could not be charged back up. Check the charging jack when the charger plugs into. I would bet that you will find to loose or broken. These jacks can be replaced but you will need to take the laptop apart and do a little soldering to do the job. Check Ebay for the jack, you can do a search for your model laptop along with "power jack", the parts should run less than $10 with shipping.

Problem description:The battery charges only when the laptop turned off. The battery charge LED lights up as normal and the battery gets charged to 100% while the laptop is off.
When the laptop is turned on, the battery charge LED goes off even if the adapter is still plugged in.
Possible cause:1. AC power adapter failure.
2. Battery failure.
3. Broken/loose power jack.
4. Motherboard failure.
Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:1. This problem could be related to a faulty AC power adapter. It's possible that the AC adapter doesn't provide enough power when plugged into the laptop. To find out if this is your problem, you'll have to test the laptop with another working adapter.Replace the adapter if needed.

2. There is a slight chance that you have bad battery. Test the laptop with a know good battery and replace the faulty one if needed.

3. The battery charge problem could be related to the power jack. Maybe the jack is broken or not making good contact with the motherboard. It is necessary to remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. Resolder or replace the jack if needed.

4. If the power jack is in a good working shape and new power adapter with battery do not fix the problem, most likely you have a faulty motherboard. Replace the motherboard if needed.
