If it is plugged into the car, you use the DC charger. You can charge it using the usb port on your computer as well. In the accessories section of tomtom.com you will find an ac adaptor as well that can be purchased to charge it to an electrical outlet.

That will depend entirely on whether your DC port (cigarette lighter port) remains powered when the ignition is off. This varies from vehicle to vehicle.

How to recharge my tom tom online

By online, I'm assuming you mean connected to your computer (via the USB port).
Just power on your GPS, then connect your GPS to your computer, using the USB port, and decline the CONNECT to Computer prompt. The GPS will then still be plugged into the USB port and the battery will be charged.

QUESTION; CAN MY XL GPS BE CHARGED BY PLUGGING IN TO THE COMPUTER?

Yes, you can plug your GPS device into your USB port to charge it. Your computer (if running) will assume you are connecting the GPS device to your computer, and It will start up the program for your GPS device... e.g. to update the map, backup the data, etc. You can proceed to do all that, or ignore those programs. While it is plugged into the USB port on your computer, it will charge your GPS battery. You may wish to "disconnect" the GPS device (properly), but still leave it connected ... to continue charging it.
Another way to charge the GPS device is to get a wall plug USB adapter. This way, you can charge the GPS battery without having to go through the complexity of what the computer does when you plug the USB cable into it.

MESSAGE STATES THAT BATTERY IS LOW, AND KEEPS SHUTTING OFF. BATTERY SHOWN ON SCREEN AS DEAD.

plug it in to your computer via the usb cable for a few hours, the car and home chargers are not recommended for the initial charge as there only a trickle charge...if it still hasn't charged up using the usb cable, there is probably a problem with the usb port(charging port)

let me know how you make out after charging it via the usb cable that was supplied with the unit.

I got TomTom for a birthday gift in January. I only used it twice. How long does it hold a charge and how do I recharge it? Need to know asap. Thank you.

One full charge will hold good for approximately 3 hours. If you got it in January, it is better to recharge it. There are two easy ways to charge it. I assume you have got two different cables with it. One connects directly to the car cigarette lighter/12V socket. The other cable can be connected to a USB port of a computer. Tom get charged while connected to the computer also. On the outside chance you did not get the cable or cannot find it go to this link below to get the cables.

Please note Tom charges through the same port (USB) as it connects to the computer, which is it at the bottom of the Unit.

My TomTom 920 turns on in my car but when connected to the car charger the charging light does not come on and the device displays a bottle symbol and turns off

It sounds like the Car adapter is bad, try charging through the USB port on your computer to see if the unit charges. If it does you will need a new car charger - try ebay.

Good Luck

Explain how to charge my tomtom.onexl to my computer

Just plug the usb lead into the sat-nav, and the other end into a USB port on your pc and it should start charging, around 4 hours is enough to fully charge it, but don't worry you cant over charge it as the software inside controls that kind of thing, OK.

Hi There!

You Can charge your Tomtom when you drive, or you can charge it with a USB port on your computer.
