Acer aspire 2920z cannot boot hard disk drive

Well either way it's probably not a good thing. You've either lost critical files or damaged the boot sector of the drive. The question is do you have valuable files on that hard drive that you need? If the drive is going bad, the more you run it the less chance you have of retrieving those valuable files. If you know how you can put in the XP CD and boot off it and do some repair but DO NOT try to re-install Windows at this time as it may try to format your drive and then your valuable files will be gone. You should have some professional help to try to repair your current windows. The best way to solve this is to probably get another hard drive as they are pretty cheap. Exchange drives and re-install windows then get someone knowledgeable to retrieve your valuable files from the old hard drive then send it back to the manufacturer and see if you can get a new one on warranty and keep it for a spare or sell it.

When your computer starts booting, tap F8. At the option menu select Command Prompt.

You will get this:

C:\

Type in chkdsk c:\ /r

Alternate way:

Click Start>Run
Enter cmd in the box and press enter.
Type chkdsk c:\ /r
Press Enter

If you get a message that "the volume is in use" "would you like to check this volume the next time the system restarts", answer Y and press Enter.

Exit the command window by typing exit then press Enter.
