The best bet is to get Revo Uninstall program first. Revo is the best removal program out there as it not only removes the original program, but it scans the Registry and other areas for Left Over code. Left over Code or Data may prevent an installation or a fresh install to setup properly. Once Revo was used to clean out unwanted programs; you can not Install any fresh program you wish and it generally works the first time around. If the fractured program was part of the Windows installation (OS Software) you may have to get the fix from http: Microsoft.Com downloads, or do a fresh OS install from scratch.
You do not say which opertaing system you are using.
First confirm that the Camera and the software are compatible with your operating system.
Disconnect the camera from the computer.
Uninstall all componenets of the software in Add or Remove Programs > restart the computer > reinstall drivers and programs if they are compatible with your operating system > restart the computer > connect the camera > test.
If you are using any form of Anti Virus software, it could be stopping the installation process. Go to the SUN Java website, and download the latest version. Save it to your desktop. Take a moment to reboot your machine completely. DO NOT start any other programs after rebooting. Stop or disable your ANTI VIRUS software. Install the JAVA update and reboot. The update should work, and upon rebooting after the install, your AV software should start again. If it is still disabled, enable it.

Smartview is supposed to work with Vista. Did you right-click on the install file and run as administrator?
If you can not get it to work there is a work around.
First, download and install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software. After installation, plug in your BlackBerry and start
up the software for the first time. Open the Options -> Connection
Settings… window and set the connection to USB. Plug in the BlackBerry,
enter your password if applicable, and Vista will find the device and
install a “standard modem”.
Open the Control Panel
Network and Internet
Connect to a network
Set up a connection or network
Set up a dial-up connection
Select Standard Modem
Dial-up phone number is #777 Connect.
Everything should work, some have reported faster speeds using this method over the Smartview program.
