Scratching disks Only had x box 360 since xmas. Has scratched/ damaged 2- 3 disks. Brand new games. Have tried cleaning them but you can see the marks on them. I am the only one who has used them and i'm worried to use anymore disks. Why would this happen. No red lights are on.

Is your Xbox 360 vertical or horizontal? If you turn your xbox off with the disk inside and move the console a lot it does tend to scratch the disks but it can also depend on how the console is rested.

Microsoft have changed the mould for the dvd trays (or the suppliers have changed them at least) so that on the latest editions of the 360 it does not scratch them as much as it used to. the previous person is right. what happens is that when the disc is being read from it will spin very very fast and one slight knock on the older 360's would produce a ring right around the 360. this happens when the game disc wobbles and touches the moulding on the dvd tray.

i would try not to move the console while its on, wait at least 30 seconds before moving the console after you turn it off.
if you have a wired pad this can make things worse as everything you pull the pad it can make the disc wobble and cause this problem.

a friend of min stopped this happening by getting a thin enough peice of soft foam and gluing it onto the tray so that when the discs did wobble they would skim the soft rubber and not the hard mouldings.

im also guessing its a samsung drive you have because the earlier ones were really bad for this.

hope it helps a bit.

I turned off my xbox 360 during playing lego marvel super heros and it messed up the disk what do I do.

Turning off your console shouldn't have damaged your disk (unless you knocked it and the disk was scratched), what is more likely is that your saved data was corrupted. Try starting a brand new game, if this works you can be pretty sure it's the data saved on the console and not the disk. If that doesn't work have a good look at your disk, clean off any fingerprints or dirt, if there are any deep scratches you may need to get them polished out ( most good games stores can do this for you pretty cheaply).

My call of duty game doesnt work anymore because of the scratches

If you're lucky, the scratches may not have cause permanent damage. Try taking your disk to a retailer such as EB Games that provides disk cleanings.

Have xbox 360, and new fallout 3 game of the year!!! play the game for 2 weeks ,the game loads, but when you start to move your character the game goes to blue screen or says it can't read disc!! and goes...

if it just has scratches then spread toothpaste all around it dry then wash it off with water and dry it completely but if it has a perfect scratched circle then u gotta replace it cause if it has that circle it wont work anymore, thats why gamestop has a new deal for a few more dollars that if that circle happens they replace it for free

My XBOX(not a 360) won't read disks

Check to see if there are any scratches or laser burn marks on the discs. Scratches or marks on discs will render the game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating “Disc Read Error”. Best remedy for starters is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs.
Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc, also known as “the ring of death”. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing, from an upright to a horizontal position or vice versa or simply knocked against or the wires may have been just tripped upon. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but professional disc repair services is normally required to restore disc laser burn damage back to "As Good As New Condition".

Check the More Info Section & FAQ section for more details on disc repairs.

Send your discs off to a Professional Disc Repair Service and the discs shall be sent back as good as new.

If this laser burn scenario is consistently happening to your game discs, the games console itself may require repair. You should contact Microsoft for assessment and guidelines.

Best remedy for starters, is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs. A common problem that Xbox owners are reporting is if the console is moved during play, a whirring noise is heard and then when the disc is removed, very visible laser burn rings are found on the disc.

check to see if anything is obscuring the disc tray on opening and closing.
If there isnt check the disc make sure its smooth and flat no bumps and not bent

if there is noises like grinding when playing it may be a part inside causing this

i suggest calling xbox because i dought u want to risk doing this to other games.

please rate. thank you

Xbox consol damaged brand new game

If you move the console while the disk inside is running it will scratch the disk(it just happened to me) I used automotive cleaner wax and polished it from inside to out and then outside to in(not in circles) and it started working again, try it:)
