Question about Sony ICD-SX46 Handheld Digital Transcriber / Recorder
I have a new Sony ICD-SX57, using the supplied software Digital Voice Editor (DVE) v3.0.00, running on a Toshiba Laptop running Vista. I have been unable to copy recorded files from the ICD to my laptop PC. DVE provides two window panes (ICD & PC) for moving files from one to the other. The files can be played back using the ICD, and also using the DVE software. However when I attempt to copy them to my PC, DVE says the folders that contain those files are empty. Also, when attempting to use Autosave, DVE says Autosave finished successfully, however it also says there was nothing to copy. ?? Side note: When originally installing DVE, it said two files were missing. They were, SonyMSUS.inf and SonyMSDK.inf. I found these files on a support site, and copied them into the location where DVE was looking for them. I don't know if copying them was helpful. And I don't know if this is related to my problem or not. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but get the same results. Does anyone have any ideas? Brian.
The solution to the problem is the software patch which was just released from Sony. I would however like to thank Mark for discovering the unorthodox way of getting the files copied onto the PC using Outlook. The patch from Sony is, Digital Voice Editor (DVE) v3.1. This works with Vista. It is available for download from Sony, using the following steps: 1. http://ESupport.Sony.com 2. Click on "Software/Drivers" 3. Enter recorder model no: ICDSX57 4. Click on "Updates" to fix problems 5. Select "Download" for the particular one you want from the list. There is only one listed. 6. Once the executable file is downloaded you may run/install it. This patch works fine for me. There is also an 800# for Sony (800-4SonyPC, and select 7 at the voice prompt) offering free tech support on this product. I called on a related issue and received a prompt, courteous and knowledgeable response.

I have the same issue with this recorder and Vista. According to Sony, the new version should be available for download "sometime this month" so I'm holding my breath. There is a way to get your files onto your computer, but it is pretty annoying when you have a bunch. But it works, so here it is. Select the specific recording that you want to save, then click the "email" button. If you use Outlook like me, an email window will open up and your selected file will be attached. YOu can then save it from the outlook email window without even actually sending it. Once it is saved on your computer, the DVE commands that allow you to convert the file do work, so have a ball! This sure does suck, no? Mark
