It may be the operating system has not recognized all the ports, if you operating system is now ok, go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager, and look to bottom of the list to USB Controller right click on them, and Uninstall all controllers and restart pc and see if all the ports are recognized and installed automatically. If the problem is same ,please restart and pres F2/F10/dell for setup bios ,and set the bios fale save default And pres F10 >yes or enter.

Right click the mouse on My computer located on desktop- select Manage- select device manager- find universal serial bus controllers - click on universal serial bus controllers - u find some devices there - right click the mouse on each and select uninstall - after uninstalling restarting the computer.
note : ensure usb controllers are enabled in BIOS setup
for this , u should press delete key at the startup of PC and locate it in Intergrated peripherals
if you are runninf windows xp than do an update to service pack 2. that should fix the usb problem..... you can do that by going to www.microsoft.com and clicking on the service pack 3 option than you will need to install the update software whitch only take about a min. than press express and the software will scan your computer for the latest updates. you might need to do this 2 times if ou are running with service pack 1.
