My problem sounds like yours. However, I plug my machine into a surge

protector and sometimes by alternately trying the switch on the surge

protector and the switch on the front, I can get it started. Once I get it to

run, I don't turn it off. I know that doesn't sound like good technical

advice, and I have no idea what causes the strange condition, but I think

if you keep playing with it, you can get it to start.

How long have you had the computer? Is it still under warranty? I would call Gateway and see if maybe they could help.

As a pro computer repair tech I would think or look at two places the first is the power supply which it probally is if it's under warranty contact the manufacter if not there very easy to replace and you can buy one at newegg.com or many other online places or ebay but buy new.the power supply doesn't have to be a emachine or HP just the same wattage or higher;unplug the powerthen just open the case you'll see the powersupply box unplug all the cables that attach to the box if you have a digital camera take a couple of good(easy to see) pics first so you can look back when replaeing the cables,or with the new power supply set it next to the old one and as you remove a cable replace the cable with one from the new one at a time then after replacing all the cables undo the 3-4 screws holding the power supply from the back of the case remove the old one and replace with the new one.the other thing I would check is the swicth on the front behind the front cover mostly doesn't break but it has happened.

Hello..just moved my desk top to new desk..everything is fine..but mouse won t work..while it was unplugged i cleaned keyboard..monitor with soft cloth..can u tell me why my mouse won t work

IF it's a serial mouse (meaning green round connector) it's probably not plugged in correctly. Now these are not plug and play so you need to reboot your system in order for it to work. Try that.

My hp elite won't turn on. it was running fine, and I left home for an hour, came back and it was off and wouldn't start. it's only 3 years old. The little green light on the back stays lit for...

The green power light will stay on after it is unplugged, as there is still residual power in the unit. The symptoms you describe point to blown main capacitors in the PSU, the only way to check is by fitting a new PSU (recommend one of 700 watts minimum). Not very expensive and as long as you are careful, easy to fit

Connecting speakers to Computer

In most cases the woofer plugs into the speaker which contains the power adapter plug, the green plug goes into the PC's audio out (usually a green plug on the back of the unit). When the USB is plugged into the machine the OS should plug and play the new hardware and may ask you to insert a driver disc if applicable.

After the OS has identified the new hardware and installed it you should be able to test additional audio out plugs if you are unable to hear sound from your first choice (again, ideally the green plug). There should also be a line out plug which may work for your purposes also.

If you are still having issues please post the model of your speakers so that we may look them up...

Hello there, I have a Dell computer and trying to use HP speakers with it. Will this not work? I am not hearing a sound and my computer shows no device for speakers.

The HP speakers should work fine with your Dell.
Make sure that you have the speakers plugged into the correct port on the back of the Dell (This is typically a green colored port) Once the speakers ar plugged in to the correct port make sure that your sound is not muted.

Click on Start then on Settings or Control Panel.
Once you get to the Control Panel double click on the Sound Icon.
Verufy that the sound is not muted and you can also check the box to display your voulume settings on the task bar.

You may also want to check that your sound card in correctly installed.

Check these items and let me know if there was any change because there can be other items to check - These are just a few good jumping off points

Make sure you don't have two video cards on your machine and have plugged into the wrong one.
Failing that, open the case and make sure the card is plugged firmly in its slot (do this with the power off).

E Machine T2682 powers up but, doesn't work

This sounds like an overheating problem, that is why the fan comes on right away. When you let it rest, it cools off, and works normally for a while.

Most modern PC's are designed to slow down their operating
frequency when they over-heat, and if that is not enough they
will go into suspend, hibernation or (totally off) modes to protect themselves from permanent damage.

Solutions:
Bigger power supply, more and better cooling fans, improved space and airflow around the cabinet, cool the room with aircond.

also better heat-sinks on the CPU and/or the chip-sets.

all relatively inexpensive.
