I have a Sony Wega TV , my problem is i turn the TV on, and after 5 sec. it shuts itself off. You hear the sound but turns off before picture can come on. Then the red light on the pannel blinks 7 times. Is this a problem we can fix ourselves , sending it out for repair isn't an opption at this time. Thank You

Re: TV shuts itself off..red light blinks 7 times.
The 7 blinks usually indicates a high voltage shutdown situation. Without the specific model, I can;t give you details about parts etc. The options are a defective flyback transformer or problem with the voltage regulation circuits. Please update this with the model number and I'll post additional details as soon as I can.

IKR Error at power on 05. 5 blinks denotes this. Actually, the fault is related to its main digital board, and the work will not an easy one. Anyway, http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ check this link. Pull up previous posts there, either by its left side bar,
or view it in Timslide option, and see whether there is something to help you. If you're not sound in electronics, no need to proceed. Contact any service technician or authorized service centre for Sony.
These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/
The tv also have a board that called a Ballast board this board only job are to ignite the tv lamp only.Hear alot of clinking too while the stanby light are blinking.Yes,the Ballast board it is dead and not help to ignite the lamp and helping it stay on.
Normally, this happens when the TV detects a bad circuit board and goes into " Protection Mode ". The blinking red light should be a error trouble code. Most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. It's possible that it maybe a bad capacitor or transformer on the power supply board. But, I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet. I can only make guesses with the symptoms.
You have a few choices: 1. You can try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 - 45 minutes so the TV can discharge and reset itself. 2. If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route. 3. If you have some electronic experience, if you can find and purchase a Service Manual over the internet; It will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you red light blinking codes, circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists.Usually, cost under $20. And most cases the new part cost less than $15. 4. Pay a TV shop to do the repairs. It maybe costly, but get an estimate of how much they will charge. That way you can decide if it worth repairing or replacing the whole TV. I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.
hi.. It's in standby mode. Do a reset and see what happens While holding down the reset button on the remote Press the power button on the tv (The tv will turn itself off the back on) Now release the reset button
It sounds like the lamp needs replaced....
