There is no reset button on a thinkpad.

To reset system to factory you have to reistall it.

To restart a unit that does not shut down, hold start button (or tab) down until unit shuts off, or unplug AC charger and remove battery at same time.

To reset a bios pass word you need to tale apart the laptop and remove bios coin battery.

Watch the display carefully, Press the Blue Access IBM button when you see the message
"To interrupt normal start up, press the blue Access IBM button"
Then double click on "Recover to factory contents"
Follow the instructions on the screen.

Removing CMOS battery on ibm r50e is not solving the pass problem

Removing battery or resetting BIOS with jumper will not help. You should call IBM for support on this issue. All thinkpads have a three year warranty, with either return to base or on-site service. Since the R50e is a recent model, you should have no problem getting it serviced directly by IBM. Toll Free: 1-800-IBM-SERV (1-800-426-7378)
