Question about Creative Labs ZEN Vision:M Digital Media Player

1 Answer

Menu, Play/Pause, Quicklink, Back Buttons not working

I'd had my vision:m for nearly three months, when all of a sudden all the buttons but the scroller and power/hold slider spontaneously ceased functioning; if this has happened to anyone else, or if anyone knows any way to get it repaired (can't bear to part with it--it's really the best mp3 player for the price in my opinion and up until now has served me beautifully) that'd be awesome. Cheers, Daniel.

This happened to me. The problem was the case was cracked and was permanently resting on the buttons inside the zen. I ended up buying a new one. Upgraded to the 60 gig model at that time.

No instruction manuals for the 'Plain Lazy' ipod docking station/alarm clock found on line :-( So after tinkering with the buttons for quite a while, II have worked out how to set the clock. Press & hold the play/pause button & at the same time press the skip back button once....let go of both buttons. Then immediately press the play/pause button again once & the clock numbers will start flashing. Press the skip back button to adjust the hours & skip forward button to adjust the minutes. Press the play/pause button to set!

My ipod displays red x icon and i cant get it into disk mode

Hi

The iPod should be charged before placing it into disk mode. To place the iPod into disk mode toggle the Hold switch on and off. (First set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears then release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause button until the Disk Mode screen appears. Now connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect". If you are facingg any difficulty in putting the iPod mode into disk mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center.
If you are still unable to put your iPod with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Having problems when connecting ipod to my computer

Have you already attempted to force the iPod into disc mode before connecting the iPod to your computer? If not I would recommend doing now. If you can get the iPod to connect to your computer at this point you will want to restore it using the latest version of iTunes.

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.

Try reseting it. If that does not resolve the issue, put it into disc mode and restore again. If these steps do not help please let me know.

Learning how to reset or restart your iPod:
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.
When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time are preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

ZEN Vision 30GB buttons not working

The fix for this requires you to disassemble the unit. The Vision is easy to disassemble and this issue can be fixed easily by those comfortable opening up and tinkering with electrical gadgets. The keypad board is separate from the main board and can easily become separated when dropped. Disassembly of the Vision case and re-seating the keypad board fixed this issue for me.

Hold down the Display/Menu function button (one of those three buttons on the left of the unit) for about 3-4 seconds until the display reads "t set". When this appears, push the track forward button once (>>|) so the display reads "beep"; now press the play pause button (>||) once. The display will now say "on", push the track forward button (>>|) once to make it read "off"; now push the stop play button. You're done. Enjoy the silence.
