Slow running of window vista

There are many things that might cause your PC to run slowly or restart at time and then. It could be a fragmented disk; fragmented registry; a virus, Trojan, or spy ware; high CPU and/or utilization due to too many programs running; high disk I/O; or something else.

To check your CPU and memory utilization, run Task Manager. You can start Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and then clicking on the Task Manager Button. In Task manager, click on the Performance tab and check CPU Usage and PF Usage. PF Usage is an indicator of memory usage. If one or both of these is high, click on the Processes tab, and sort the columns by CPU or Memory to see what processes are consuming the resource. If you are not sure what the process "Image name" is for, Google the name and you should find what the process is for.

If your CPU and memory usage are reasonable, then you may have a different issue. Even if you running anti-virus software, it may be beneficial to scan your PC with another scanner to check for viruses. Here is a few good virus scanners that you can run to check your PC:

Enable the Registry Editor, Task Manager and Folder Options Disabled by Viru

Virus attack is common these days and we often come across the problems like Disabled Folder Options or like Task Manager and Regedit disabled by Administrator. These problems are nothing but virus activities. The virus has infected our system and stopping us from accessing these options.
23f407e.jpg
Pressing keys Ctrl+Alt+Del opens up a dialog saying that “Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator” whereas you are the Administrator yourself. It becomes very annoying when you think that you can fix this problem by going into the Registry Editor but it doesn’t show up. Even the Folder Options gets disabled.
This problem is generally caused by a virus named “Brontok” but don’t worry just use RRT (Remove Restrictions Tool) that can easily solve this problem. RRT is free and can successfully enable:
1. Folder Options
2. Regedit (Registry Editor)
3. Task Manager
4. Show Hidden Files option
The tool will come more useful if you use it in Safe Mode.
Download RRT

Task Manager is disabled. We want to enable the Task manager in my computer

If it (Task Manager) was not disabled by the Administrator (in case your computer is on a network), you can easily enable the it. But you need to know that this could also be done by viruses. As we know, this issue is often created by virus. So I would suggest you to run a full system Scan using an updated antivirus (for this problem, I would recommend you to use Avira free antivirus, you can download it from avirafreeantivirus).

To enable the Task Manager, follow the below instructions:
Click “Start” > “Run” and type in “gpedit.msc” (without qoutes) and press Enter.

Group Policy Editor window will open, once it’s opened, follow the steps by clicking your mouse as labeled here (sequence 1, 2.....):

38fc022.jpg

Once you double click the "Remove Task Manager", another window will pop up, click your mouse as labelled below (Sequence..):

1ef0de7.jpg

After you are done, close the Group Policy Editor and go check your task manager, hurray, it's working.

But that's the end, the problem may return if your system is infected by virus, so don’t forget to run a Full System Virus Scan using an updated antivirus.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

My task manager doesn't work anymore can u help me fix this?

Try this:

If Task Manager has been disabled, you can re-enable it if you have administrator privileges on the computer.
To enable Task Manager on a computer running Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Home Premium This procedure requires you to edit the registry. An incorrect change to your computer's registry could render your computer inoperable. We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before making any changes. For more information, see Back up the registry.
  1. Open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, typing regedit into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.png If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
  3. Double-click System, double-click DisableTaskMgr, change Value data to 0, and then click OK.
To enable task Manager on a computer running other editions of Windows Vista
  1. Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, type gpedit.msc in the search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. Under User Configuration, double-click Administrative Templates.
  3. Double-click System, and then click Crtl+Alt+Del Options.
  4. Double-click Remove Task Manager, click Disabled, and then click OK.
or you're computer might be infected by a virus, if you're not the one who disabled the task manager.

Try to scan your computer also.

To enable task manager

If you are not the administrator, contact your local system administrator.

If you are the owner of the computer, then you have a computer-virus that is blocking your attempt to run the Task Manager.

How to enable registry edit & how enable task manager

There is 2 ways to do this.
1) navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPolicies. Here open System, DisableTaskMgr, and change Value data to 0, in order to enable Task Manager, or to 1 in order to disable the tool

2) type "gpedit.msc" in the Search box under the Start menu and then launch the tool with elevated privileges, as shown above. Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates; System, Ctrl+Alt+Del Options, Remove Task Manager, and here you can choose between either Enable or Disable the utility

My task manager has been disabled due to virus attack. help me

There is a registry hack to enable or disable Windows NT TaskManager. The same registry hack applies to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Name: DisableTaskMgr
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1=Enablethis key, that is DISABLE TaskManager
Value: 0=Disablethis key, that is Don't Disable, Enable TaskManager

As part of the enhanced management available in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, rather than risking a registry change, as an administrator you can enable or disable Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro's TaskManager using Group Policy Editor. This can be applied to the local policy. Note: if you are trying to override your organizations group policy, you can't. As soon as you re-authenticate to the domain, the domain or OU Group Policy will rewrite the registry setting. But if the TaskManager was accidently disabled or you need to control this item for a set of standalone boxes this is for you:
  • Click Start
  • Click Run
  • Enter gpedit.msc in the Open box and click OK
  • In the Group Policy settings window
    • Select User Configuration
    • Select Administrative Templates
    • Select System
    • Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
    • Select Remove Task Manager
    • Double-click the Remove Task Manager option
And as I mentioned above, since the policy is Remove Task Manager, by disabling the policy, you are enabling the Task Manager.
