Question about GE Profile 26.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser TFX27PRBWW

GE TFX27PF refrigerator and freezer still not getting cold enough

After a little research here on fixya I thought I only had a defrost problem but am concerned I am dealing with a bigger issue now.

I started by cleaning the coils under the fridge fboth from the front and back side. Tested the defrost timer and it seems to be working. Finally I removed back panel on freezer to find bottom half of coils frozen over. I completely defrosted the coils using a hair dryer and turned it back on. it began to freeze over again the next day. Purchased and installed new defrost heaters from local appliance dealer and thought i had this thing licked. Two days later and still only getting a freezer temp of about 30 degrees and a fridge temp of 42.

What next?

Thanks Peyton, not the news I wanted to hear but helpful nonetheless.

I guess the question now becomes whether or not to have it repaired or to replace it. The unit is at least 8 years old, any further advice?

The partial frost pattern is an indication of low refrigerant, restriction or bad compressor. if the unit is under 5 years old this repair will probably be under warranty thru GE. if out of warranty then you are looking in most cases between 200-500 dollars for repair. good luck Thanx peyton

I usually recomend to my customers if the repair is going to cost more than half of a new refig to go ahead and look at a new unit. but there are a lot of determining factors, such as overall condition of the unit, financial situation etc.

I beleive you would be better served to actually have a reputable service company properly diagnose and give you a good estimate so that you can make a proper decision.

Water on the bottom inside the fridge

Hello Simon Kaloussdian,

I dearly love refrigerators... if for nothing else... they sit
for decades working their hearts out... usually to never be given a second thought .

I'm looking at your 280 day old Daewoo top freezer
report... (only by researching your history)...
INFO: Country, features, history & model number?

So... no door service... water/ice service ELIMINATES
a lot of concerns... You are basically looking at
a DEFROST, drainage or air-leak problem...

From your previous issue...
you know the EVAPORATOR collects ice...
Your DEFROST circuit... routinely removes it...
Or should:
There are only 3 defrost elements:
- TIMER/Control (clock or Circuit board)
- Defrost thermostat (restrains EVAP heater)
- Defrost heater (warms.... only)

A clear drain to the DRAIN-PAN allows the moisture to be externally collected & removed (usually evaporative)...

ASSUMING all your door gaskets are good... you must have a blocked drain (I'm suspecting a clogged EVAPORATOR PAN).

Usually a dose of warm (only: not hot) soapy water
is enough to get the drain flushed out...

fit a soda straw (or flex tube) to the bottom of the
drain tube and blow up...

Working FANS and clean condensers are CRITICAL to satisfactory cooling.

Ice build up in Freezer on left side

Sounds like a defrost issue. this could be a bad defrost control, defrost heater or defrost thermostat. There may be a defrost thermistor that control the defrost control. You will have to research what your refrigerator has to see what could be causing the ice build up. I would start with the defrost control then the defrost thermostat. If your refrigerator has an electronic control then check to see if the thermistor is bad.

Ge TFX24S refrigerator does not get cold enough

Your Defrost electrical element (heater) is blown, you will need to buy a new defrost heater. Your evaporator coils in your freezer section is froze up (no air flow)...soild ice, thus you're not cooling down properly. You will need to defrost and then underneath the coils you'll find the glass tube with defrost heating will need to replace this part (entire glass heating element)'s DIY fairly easy to get at.

Heating coil leaking film on the windshield and causes it to fog and does not clear quickly

what you describe is a leaking heater core, which will leak fluid into the passenger side floorboard, the "sweet smell is antifreeze,if you have in the radiator at this time.if you have the defroster on,the windsheild will fog with a sticky substance, left over steam from the cooling system leaking into the cars interior. the only way to repair this issue is to have your heater core replaced. it's a job! under the dash, behind the glove box, and the external hoses to the heater core are under the hood at the passengers side, just under the windsheild, but what we call the firewall. you will see 2 black hoses protruding through the {firewall,or dash from outside) those hoses will need to be removed,as well, as along with 35 screws under the dash to replace the bad heater core. suggest you call around for prices.the heater core itself ranges in price from 35.00 to 65.00 but the labor is the bang! research local garages for prices, but you have until cold weather to replace it,only because the heater core supplys heat to the inside of your vehicle. good luck, and i really mean research now, because most garages are not dealing with such issues now,due to warm weather.thank you for choosing!
