yeah, same problem, borrowed a copy of civ III from a friend, played it for a while, and installed the 2009 security patch, and the game won't start, just bounces in the dock for about a few seconds.

I've been running Civ 3 on my powerbook for years. Suddenly it won't open. Just bounces in the dock for a few seconds.

Make sure you have the 1.22 Rev A patch and then get the new fix (both links are on the page linked above).

Problem running Civilization IV with Windows Vista

Okay, i play Civ IV on my system and i run Vista as well. Your best bet is the tweak with the compatibility. Find the install folder and look for the .exe that launches the game (civ.exe i think, don't hold me to that though). Right click on it and click on properties, then the compatibility tab. Try dropping the compatibility to win xp and see if that helps. If it doesn't, post your system specs and we'll work from there

This application has failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found. This is what i get after the download of Civcity Rome when I try to play it. What can i do ? I have Vista is that the prob?

You need to go to the Microsoft Website and download a DirectX Runtime update. This error is simply the result of your Direct X runtimes not being up to date. The link to the download is

Can i play Civ II on my brand new mac?? or do i need an older mac

Civ II is a fairly old game. It seems that your PC runs Windows XP or earlier. It is likely that the site you read was correct, and your computer is too new to run it. However, you may be able to get another newer version of Civ for Mac, but check the system req's for any game you try to install. I don't know for sure if this is the case, but I hope this helps you somewhat.

Opengl drivers needed &'' Q_strncpyz: NULL src '' error

Hi, had similar problem myself, the problems are either you don't have a sufficient graphics or video card or you don't have or are not up to date with OpenGL drivers. The trio 32/64 graphic card is not one that is most likely to run with this game, because i had one for my old machine and came up with exactly the same problem, i will give you OpenGL updates but my solution is get yourself a better graphics card for Quake III Arena

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/18800 - This is the site for the update, scroll until you see 'Download' should be under Additional Requierments

This is the minimum in Graphics cards that will run with Quake III
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All 3dfx chips and higher
nVIDIA Riva 128 and 128ZX and higher
Matrox G200 & G400and higher
ATI Rage Pro & Rage128 and higher
nVIDIA Riva TNT and TNT2 and higher
Intel i740and higher
nVIDIA GeForce 256 and higher

Hope This Helps
