Whirlpool LHW0050PQ - Water wont empty or fill

When attempting to start a new cycle, water will not fill into the tub. Instead, there is a loud obnoxious noise that sounds like a jack hammer. Please help.

I've checked both hoses and they provide plenty of water. The machine has worked with no problems for the past 18 months. The problem began in the middle of a load of clothes. The wash cycle had completed and it was beginning the rinse cycle when the noise first began. It would not fill with water to perform the rinse cycle. Just the loud obnoxious clicking noise.

A friend of mine suggested that perhaps the relay that opened inside the washer to allow water in was bad. I've removed the back of my washed but am unfamiliar with how to find this.

My washer does not have an option to chose between hot or cold cycles. When I removed the back to take a look inside, I even see where the fill hoses are connected to a y connector into one hose.

Thanks for any help! This is driving me crazy!

This sounds like a plumbing problem. Lets see if we can isolate it. Turn the valves off behind the washer and remove them from the washer. Remove the washer drain hose from the stand pipe. Stuff one of the hoses into the now vacant drain line and turn the water on. Then do the other hose. Any noise? Now reconnect the fill hoses to the washer and reinstall the drain hose to its' place. Turn on the water valves at the wall, set the washer to a cold/cold cycle and start it up. Listen for noise. Now shut the machine off and set it for a hot/cold cycle and turn it on. Listen for noise. If you get no noise now, it's all good. If you're getting noise from just your hot water, your water heater is set too high and you have steam propagating in your plumbing. Your washer water valves (where the hoses connect to your machine) will only do this if you have low water pressure coming from the wall. Still, it'll be a plumbing problem.

Clicking noise! Before it was a "jackhammer"... OK... clicking, no drain, no fill. You have something jammed in your drain pump. Easy to get to. You have to remove the panel below the door. 3 TORX (star shaped)screws way down there at the bottom of the panel. You may have to tilt the machine back and prop it up with a brick under each front leg to get to 'em. Remove those screws, then drop and pull the panel off. Then you'll see the drain pump trap... the large round plastic thing pretty close to center mounted to the base. Rotate that handle counter clockwise several turns and remove the trap. Inspect the trap and remove debris. Feel around inside for other debris. Use a flashlight to visually inspect. Poke your finger into the pump intake and feel around for debris, (coins, nails, underwires, etc...). Remove what you find and rebuild it. Good to go.

Fills with water, drains, will not spin. sometimes will not fill

This is almost certainly the filter to the empty pump blocked. When you power up the machine, the first thing it does is make sure there is no water left over in the tub, if it can't evacuate any water it finds there, it won't go any further. Same on a spin, if after a set time the water hasn't emptied the empty cycle will stop but the spine cycle wont start because there is still water in the drum.

Locate and clean your empty pump filter.

Beginning of wash cycle starts agitating instead of filling w/water.

the water pressure/level switch contacts are welded together, usually the load selector switch for the amount of water lets it fill to a determined water level and the water level creates pressure in a tube from the tub to this switch and stops water fill and starts the wash agitation cycle, replace this switch inside the control panel

Amana washer won't fill with water

1st I checked the power, compressor in garage had tripped the breaker to the washer circuit. This model has no bells or whistles to tell you if the power is on to the unit. Reset the breaker and unit works.
