If you don't care about the information on the hard drive, use a boot cd for your operating system (windows/linux/unix...whatever) to reformat the hard drive and then install it on the newly formated hard drive

My dell inspiron 1546 says there is a primary hard drive password and a system password but why does it just shut down instead of letting me type a password?

Just answered a similar question. Did you set upthese passwords, or did some lame computer store geek do it? either way, you may have a BIOS sytem pass set up and need to know what that pass is. If repeatedly tap F2 or F10 when starting up it should take you to BIOS settings. If that is not the answer, and it windows password, you may have to image the hard drive in order to save documents on there and reinstall the drive. You can then view the image you saved (on another drive) to recover your docs.

My hard drive ask for a primary password when starting windows

Hi,

Inorder to reset the BIOS password, you have to open the laptop from the back, locate the CMOS battery, remove it and press down the terminal (with the help of a screw driver) for 5 sec, now turn ON the computer (keep on holding the terminal) short the BIOS. Now, Turn off the computer and restart the computer, it will reset the BIOS password.

Dell: Primary hard drive 0 not found Primary

Sorry, but this isn't a good sign. Drive 0 is most likely your main hard drive, and only if you have a second one would you computer ever find anything on Drive 1.
I would check the connections inside from the motherboard to the hard drive, as well as from the power supply to the hard drive.
Here's the manual: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx60/en/ug/sffabout.htm#1103481
Also, if you boot your computer to the Dell copy of Windows, go through the motions of reinstalling Windows and you probably won't be able to detect any drive to install it on.
You'll most likely need to replace the hard drive altogether. Sorry!
Hope this was helpful for you (even though it was bad news)! If so, please give a rating!

Primary drive 1 not found

Try to use a different IDE cable. If that doesnt help, change your hard drive cable to the secondary IDE slot on the mainboard and change your BIOS accordingly, If still nothing try running two different drives wether its a hard drive, cd rom on one cable, or 2 hard drives doesnt matter just make sure that your jumpers are set properly.

Hello, pls I am having problem with my laptop IBM R30. Whenever I turn it on,It displays NTLDR file missing.MY mail is abincojay@yahoo.com

Windows 2000 users If your computer is using Microsoft Windows 2000 and you are encountering the NTLDR error. Create the below boot.ini file on the floppy diskette drive. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect Copy the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files from another computer using the same operating system. Both of these files are located in the root directory of the primary hard disk drive. For example, C:\NTLDR and C:\NTDETECT.COM should be the locations of these files on many computers. Please keep in mind that these files are hidden system files, if you need additional help with viewing hidden files in Windows please see document CH000516. Once these files have been copied to a floppy diskette reboot the computer and copy the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files to the root directory of the primary hard disk drive. Below is an example of what commonly should be performed from the A:\> drive. copy ntldr c: copy ntdetect.com c: After the above two files have been copied, remove the floppy diskette and reboot the computer. Windows XP users Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer. copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\ Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.
