when the radio face is open like it is in the picture above... take a look /feel directly underneath (back side of the lower controls)the large center knob. you are going to feel a push button about an inch wide. push while pulling down and toward you to remove. the until will then close on it own. reattach by clipping directly on once unit has closed
the faceplate has a loose or broken contact on one of the wires on the ribbon wire located in back of where the faceplate mount. the ribbon wire is expensive and you must open the radio and install it. the wire is about 30 bucks plus shipping from the dual company or namsung. you can also find the ribbon wire for sale at ebay.com or parts.com
I'm assuming that you installed the head-unit new and that the faceplate did (at one time) previously slide down the way it was intended to work - is this assumption correct?
Is the molding around the head faceplate (mounting ring) damaged?
Are you sure you're not using the semi-permanent mounting configuration??
(see page 6 of the manual)
This particular unit has the option for a semi-permanent mounting of the face plate. If the two screws are inserted into the sides, it will lock the face plate in to the head unit (have you done that?) - if so, removing the screws will allow the face plate to be removed.
there is a corkscrew that opens and closes the face plate, it will get worn down since it made out of plastic, when it wheres down, only have of the screw will have threads, the have of the screw that has threads will let you take the cd in and out, but in order to get the whole face down it needs to use the whold corkscrew, the corkscrew is located on top of the unit, only visible after the top cover is taking off, you'll see it on the right side of the unit, you can try to order one from www.dualav.com, its such an easy fix
This is what the manual says: With the unit off, press OPEN to allow the front panel to slide down. Gently squeeze the release tab located on the bottom center underside and pull faceplate down and away from unit to remove. To install, insert left side faceplate first, then push right side to secure.
