Question about Coleman Powermate Premium Plus 6250W Portable Generator

1 Answer

I hv a colemanpowermate 5000/6250w generator- won't stay running

I have added stabelizer to the gas. it will start and run 30 to 45 min and then hesitate and then kick back in after several seconds and then repeat this a couple of times and finally after hesitation it will not kick back it and cease to run. I will wait 30 min to restart and after 30 to 45 min the process reoccurs. I have replaced the gas, still happens. the generator is 5 years old but only has about 120 hours on it. Do I have a sparkplug problem and how do i fix?, or do I hv another kind of shut down issue.? How do I resolve? Please advise

Hi, Please understand that this type of troubleshooting is hard without seeing it but doesn't sound like a fuel issue at all. This genset does have other sensors that will shut it down like low oil and high temperature. Most likely oil from your description. You also don't say what load it is carrying, could you be plugged into something that cycles off and on and when it cycles on the genset shuts down from the overload? If you think this might be the case, disconnect everything and power up a few at a time especially things that cycle on and off like refrigerators, heaters, stoves. Good Luck!

My onan 4.0 generator will not idle and is back fireing while trying to run it will run fine for ten min then starts trying to die and starts back fireing when I try to keep it running

check for a faulty sump oil switch . check for faulty coil ( magneto on the flywheel) as the time it runs suggests that it is breaking down internally.

3650 generator won't start!!

I assume that the spark plug are good and the gas line is clear. Try to adjust the gas line supply and default engine startup revolution settings try it full half and minimum back and forth it works. Other gen sets requires a mix of oil with its gas, please do it when it is required with exact proportion. Hope this helps. Goodluck.

Generator w/nat gas conversion kit sputters

THAT SOUNDS like a VERY LEAN condition. The exhause glowing is because its so lean. The stalling the sputtering. OPEN the gas valve more WHILE its running. With a load if possible.. If you have a tri fuel kit like I do, going from propane to nat gas I need to open the load block (gas valve) 2 turns more .Then it starts and runs great.

Unit will start at full choke but will not stay running with choke off, will load up on full choke and stay running around 3/4 choke

HI,
Turn off the gas and take the bowl off the carburetor.Look for water bubbles in the gas that spills away. Water will float like little balls on gas. If so drain gas tank put in new gas with some HEET added. While you have the bowl off spray up and around the bottom of the now exposed carburetor.
Pay attention to spray up the small copper tube in the center of the carb.
Clean out bowl and put it back on. Turn on your gas. Look for leaks around the replaced bowl. Good luck.

I have a Generac XL4000. It rill start but not run right.

If the area you live in has alcohol added to their unleaded gas, then you will probably need to rekit the carbuerator. Also check the spark arrestor for plugging up. Try to find a non alcohol, off road unleaded gas for your generator.

Northstar 5500 9HP Generator

Ok, try and take the bowl off and clean it out with some carb cleaner. Also open the carb top and shoot carb cleaner down it for several seconds repeatedly. If it has never been used it still was started and tested at the factory. It has gunk build up on the nedle and is probably stuck. This happens to alot of carbs even sitting for only a few years. Just take the carb apart as much as you feel comfortable with and spray carb cleaner all through it. Move the movable parts alittle and then try it. It has to work . P.S. Look in the gas tank and see if there is any rust in it. If so you need to pour some deisel fuel in it and sloush it around and dump it.
