Try and ping something. From the dos command prompt type: ping www.google.com
do you get a response?

if you can not ping then you do not have a connection to the outside world. How are you connected to your ISP? Do you have DSL modem? Try and connect to the DSL modem directly. Most of them are setup onhttp://192.168.254.254
see if you have a connection to the ISP. There should be a section that shows your PPPoE connection. There is probably as section to run Diagnostics. Run that and see that all PPPoE connections are good. You may have to seclect a "Connection to Test", pick "PPPoE". The Login ID and password to the http connection of the DSL modem is probably admin/admin. If that is not true you need to find out what it is. Tell me the model of your DSL modem and who your ISP is. I can try and find out.

You could try these:

* Check if it is signal related, go near your wireless router and see if the wireless icon shows up without any problems.
* remove the remembered wlan saved in your pc, follow the instructions in the link below:

connection to wifi
Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon.
This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look (((·)))
Make sure its pressed on.
Usually a wifi enabled phone, computer, or whatever device, will recognize if there is wifi access near you.
If not you may need to turn on the wifi on those devices.
Usually those setting can be found in menus like Network Settings.
Once it recognizes the network you will need the password if it is required.
Just enter that in and you are set.
Where you enter the password is usually in the same menu in which you turned on your wifi enabled device.
if still no connection
Power on the laptop computer and wait for the operating system to boot.
Right-click the wireless Internet icon in the lower right corner of the desktop.
This brings up a new pull-down menu.
Select "View Available Wireless Networks."
This brings up a selection of different possible Internet connections that are in range of the computer.
Select the wireless Internet connection you want to use.
If a password is required, you need to type it in now.
Wait for the laptop to connect to the Internet.
In a moment the computer is going to state it has successfully connected to the Internet.

Type ipconfig /all and press enter and see if it gives you an IP address similar to 192.168.1.100.

Are you using a router? Do you use cable internet? Try connecting directly the cable directly into your netbook. If you have internet access then the issue may be with your router.

Check the Proxy settings in the LAN Connection area.

Here is a document which provides information on the Proxy Settings. You should have NOTHING in the proxy settings. I suspect that you have something that is wrong.

Unable to access internet through local area network.

hello
in this case first you need to check the ip address by goin on start- run - type cmd -- then type ipconfig , if its giving you a valid ip address then try to access internet and select the option that says automatically detect settings and you will find that option under -- open internet explorer then go to tools- internet option- connections - lan settings
and
if you are not getting any ip address then do a right click on my compuetr icon on your desktop adn go to properties-- hardware- device manager-- network adaptors - and uninstall all the adaptors and then do a right click on network adaptors and then scan for hardware changes .

and the third option is to uninstall Internet explorer 8 adn try with IE 6

kindly rate this solution as well

Wireless internet connection

Hi,

You have not mentioned the issues that you are facing with the wireless connection, however as Belkin has suggested you to contact the Antivirus or firewall company, i will try to provide you the details as what you can do for this.
As i do not know which Antivirus and Firewall program you are using, i will give you the solution in General.
-First of all to determine that whether the issues you are facing are actually because of the Antivirus or Firewall, you can disable both for few minutes and check whether the issue still persists or not.
- To disable then, you need to find the icon for the same at the bottom right corner of your screen ( Next to the Time ), Make a right click on that and you shoud get an option like "Exit, Disable, Quit", once you click on that you should be able to disable the same.
- Now try your wireless and check whether the issue still persists as the Antivirus Firewall is Off at the moment.
- If the wireless is working fine, than it seems that the Antivirus/Firewall utility is blocking few options of the wireless. To rectify this you need to open the options of the programm and find out whether the internet/wireless application is blocked or not.
- To open the options you can open the program from the start menu or you may click the icon if present on the desktop or you may right click on the icon present at the bottom right corner ( next to the time )
- Check all the tabs and find out where it displays a list of programmes that are blocked. You might see a check mark in front of Internet Explorer/Wireless/Internet or a related program. Uncheck if you find something similar and apply the settings.

NOTE :-
1. Just to mention that when you turn off the Antivirus or firewall your computer may be at a risk on Internet attacks. So if you choose to do it do it for a limited time.
2. Whenever you restart your computer the anti virus or the firewall program turns on by itself.

I have tried to provide the solution on the basis of the information provided. Hope that this should resolve the issue that you are facing.
