Dim 20" Apple Cinema Display

My 20" Apple Cinema Display just started looking dimmer than  previously.
Is this a backlight problem? What can be done?
Thanks for the help.

My problem is similar, but I have a 22" Apple Cinema Display. The older generation one, I think it was the 2nd one, and has the clear plastic with white borders. Anyhow, my monitor seems pretty dim and it takes a while to get brighter, which is still not as bright as my newer monitors. The colors are not as right, vibrant, and bright as I think they should be... I have compared the monitor to another same, but smaller monitor and it definitely darker, but not like dark or impossible to see, it just seems dimmer than the rest. Does this need new bulbs or one of those inverter boards replaced? ANy info would be appreciated.

Double check you power cord and try switching plugs.

sounds like its not getting enough power or a CCFL is going or is out and you need to get it serviced if thats the case.

Do not attempt to repair this your self Monitors usally have there own power supply built ind can store massive amounts of energy and will cause serious injury or death.

30" apple cinema display suddenly went blank.

It's probably the backlight. If you look very closely, perhaps using a flashlight, you might be able to see that it is still working but just not being lit up from the back. In that case it may be worth fixing, but if not, then it's probably past its useful life.
One other thing you might try is a different power supply.

Blinking light on 20 inch apple display

Blinking light on Apple cinema display usually indicates insufficient power from the power supply. Test it with another power supply from ANY cinema display (23" and 27" power supplies are ok to test with).

I have a M8149 Cinema dispaly 22" and want to connect to late 2009 Mac mini. The monitor came with a strange adaptor set of ADC input to 1x each of usb, 24Pin 92x rows of 8) male ADC, and another plug...

The Apple 22" Cinema display M8149 (ADC) is one that is not compatible.
It might be better to find another brand display to work with your 2009 Mac Mini. The Apple model A1081 is DVI, but for the age (its 8 years old, the lamps are likely dimmer than new...) I would look for a resolution-compatible DVI input display (Dell Ultrasharp, etc..).

After a couple of electrical power outages my Cinema 20" Apple monitor doesn't work. The power light (lower right) goes through cycles of off, dim, bright, etc. sort of as if it's flashing a Morse...

There are three "morse code" flashes that an Apple Cinema display can produce that are diagnostic:
Three short flashes (morse "s") means incompatible video format. Try resetting the parameter RAM when restarting to go to the default

Short-long-short (morse "r") means "wrong power adapter." I've seen some monitors that will not work with an adapter that others will and that give this signal. In some cases this can be fixed by insulating the power sensing pin on the display power cord.

Finally morse "u" (short-short-long) means a backlight problem.

Apple cinema display has interference

Check your DVI cable for breaks. If that's not the problem, then you'll need a new IP board. Not sure of the part number for this monitor, it's printed on the circuit board. It starts with 820-XXXX or 620-XXXX in some cases.

Apple 20" display black screen

I've read that aftermarket DVI cable adapters don't work well with this set-up. You might try the Apple DVI to ADC adapter. It's expensive but I see them on eBay or craigslist from time to time at less than half the normal $99 cost.
