Crosley Servidor WCR17/E K3 Top Shelf and Drain Plug Freezes Over

Crosley Servidor; Model WRC17/E K3
Type R47G-KCRW353

This refrigerator's ledge at the back of the top shelf is icing up, even on the lowest setting, and so the drain plug is icing over. The appliance is 5 years old. The water collection tray under the bottom of the refrigerator is empty (because of the frozen drain plug), but some discolored water oozes out from under the bottom of fridge from time to time.

I called Maytag and Magic Chef, who makes Crosleys, and they said that they couldn't find the model number.

    Hi Peyton,

Thanks for your quick reply! A few days ago, I tried using a syringe with warm water to flush the line, but after a couple of hours, it froze up again along the ledge and drain. Yes, the food is also getting frozen on the top shelf.

Where is the temperature control located so I can get the part number off of it? And how easy is the process to remove the old control and replace it with a new one?

    Many thnx

First thing I would suggest is to flush the drain line. defrost any ice in the drain and then flush warm water thru the line until it flows freelyif  your having a hard time getting the line flushed out you may try using a large syringe or turrkey baster filled with warm water to forcfully flush water thru the line. this will most likely fix the problem.
you didnt mention if food was freezing in the refrig as well as the drain but there may be an off chance that the temperature control could be bad. since this is a manual defrost unit it depends on above freezing temps to help keep frost off of the cooling coil. if the temp control goes bad it will allow sub-freezing temps and possible drain freeze ups. so if the drain continues to freeze you will need to replace the temperature control.
if it comes to that, the control actually has a part number on it since maytag cant find your model number.
message me back if you have any further questions. thx peyton

unfortunatley the diagram i have of this refrig isnt good so I really cant tell you where it is but the knob you turn to adj the temps is the actual temp control. I did some more searching after i submitted my solution and I think I have a part number for you 2-60061-003  got this number from partsdirect.com but I had to remove some of the numbers from your given model number to find it. the part should be straight forward to change of course you'll need to access the control itself it only has 2 wires that hook to it and then you have to find where the sensor connects to the cooling coil. just follow the sensor from control to the coil.

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the centeroldtech2332_52.jpg

Leak

Sounds like you have a clogged drain the water freezes melts during defrost. You have to take the freezer floor out. to clean the drain.

poss answer is drain hole/vent blocked,as unit auto defrosts water/vapour collects at bottom and when unit swiches back on it freezes, poke out drain with thin wire with a small piece of cloth dipped in clorine bleach or blow out with air hose.do not use hot water to manually defrost/ clean drain holes every 6 months

Water accumulating in bottom of freezer and leaking onto floor

Yes the drain is clogged and the water that supouse to go through became ice so it make it worse.Put hot water in the drain hole until it runs through,it'll go to an evaporative pan on top of the compresor to keep it warm and vaporize the water.

Water Leak around left front wheel

I would check the defrost drain inside the freezer. this is real easy to do on this model refrig.
  • remove bottom basket (if it isnt frozen in place) and the shelf above it.
  • in th back just below the coil cover in the freezer section there is a ledge that will most likely be frozen over remove this ice using a hair dryer or hot water which ever is conveinant for you
  • you should uncover a drain hole flush this drain with hot water I use a turkey baster or large syringe to forcefully push water thru to clear anything in the drain
  • put it back together and you should be good to go
when ever the unit goes into defrost (which is about twice a day) the water runs over the ledge and then out of the door by the hinge puddling up next to the wheel. this unit has a hard fiberglass drain pan that is built in and unless it has been dropped i cant imagine the drain pan being damaged.
Let me know if you have any other questions Peyton

Water accumulates and freezes in bottom shel

The drain for the defrost is blocked, probably with ice. If drain is frozen it will need to be defrosted, and a heat probe attached to the heat element and down through the drain hole. If not frozen there could be blockage in the drain cup depending on the model.
