I have the same problem but not 100% of the time. Some times it runs fine, sometimes in cycles once, sometimes twice. I was told it could be the board but want to make sure

I would start with cleaning the flame sensor. It is a metal rod that will be located in the path of the flame. Please let me know if this helps.

Could be flame sensor. I dirty flame sensor will cause this problem. Flame sensor is rod that is in burner, should be able to remove and clean with steel wool or dollar bill. Usually has white film on sensor preventing it from reading flame. Not sure how American Standard is but sensor normally has 1 screw holding into place in burner box. If you can get at it, it is easy to clean.

Check the filter, and make sure it is clean. Also, check return air vents are not covered by rugs,or anything else. If those check out, your A.C. coil may be clogged.Thee coil is not easy to access, and you should call around and get a couple of "FREE" estimates to clean the A-Coil.

Furnace starts properly, then shuts down, led flashes 8 times

The first thing to look at is the flame sense rod.
Shut off power to the furnace, remove, clean sensor with steel wool or sandpaper then reinstall the sensor. Reapply power and it should run properly.

You have either a misadjusted fan switch or a bad fan relay. Or your thermostat has a fan switch on it that may be in the "On" position. Check the thermostat first, then if that is not the case, you will need to call your technician.

Inspect the venting system for sags or blockages. The added restriction could be adding to your issue.
