If the speaker you want to connect is from other devices(not a computer speaker )then you need an amplifier .Connect the speaker to the amp. then connect the laptop(output) to amplifier (input)the cable you need is "dual RCA male to 3.5mm male audio" .here is the link to view the cable that you need.

There should be two jacks either on the front or the sides of our laptop. Similar to the headphone jack on an MP3 player or an iPod. One is for speakers/headphones and the other for the microphone.

My left speaker is not working and it isn't the cable connection. It has been checked and the plug is in all-the-way.

You could just have a loose wire inside the speaker but sometimes one speaker will just go to speaker heaven. Sorry I can't give a better answer and I don't know that brand so I don't know if you can open up the speaker easily to see if there is a loose connection. Now, sometimes the plugs can just wear out too which can be replaced if it is a great set of speakers but again, back to the lack of knowledge about that brand and how hard it is to work on.

I don't know which port in the back of the Pavilion to connect the black wire from the speakers (that connect to the right speaker with red and white ends). Any ideas? They are labeled as side, rear...

To get "surround" sound, when you face the computer, you will have:
* 2 front speakers, one immediately on each side of the computer
* 2 side speakers, one on each side of your head
* 2 rear speakers, one behind each side of your head

Thus, when the sound is of a jet-plane coming towards your face,
you'll first hear the sound in the front speakers,
then in the side speakers,
and finally in the rear speakers,
to produce a sound-effect of the jet passing over your head, and going "behind" you.

Usually, for "front" speakers, one speaker connects to the other speaker, and the second speaker connects to the "FRONT-audio-output" connector on your sound-card.

For side speakers, one speaker will connect to the LEFT-side-audio-output port,
and one speaker will connect to the RIGHT-side-audio-output port.

For rear speakers, one speaker will connect to the LEFT-rear-audio-output port,
and one speaker will connect to the RIGHT-rear-audio-output port.

My wife and I moved. I was in the hospital the week of moving. Others got us all moved. How do I get the NEC GMS2ONF speakers wired back? Two connected for one +power and one connect for the other? If...

You should have a cable that connects one speaker to the other directly. Then there's the power cable, and there should be another cable connecting the PC to the speakers.
Important: The PC's audio-output is usually marked with green color, that's where you should connect the cable going to the speakers.
Hope the above helps!

Brother tripped over cord connected to laptop

Sounds like the wires inside got pulled loose or broke. Replace the speaker wires or check them good for connection.
I can't fix this for you, but if I helped you get it fixed, please rate it as a fixya not a helpful rating. These ratings let me be allowed to help you and others in the future.

The laptop should have a speaker output the same size as that plug. This is the size of most small computer speaker systems.
