Question about Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Computer with Intel Duo Core 15.4 Inch PC Notebook

2 Answers

Lack of information

I bought a MacBook Pro that came without any sort of manual to describe, understand, capabilities, or even troubleshooting.  I have accessed the Apple home page, where I can view, page by page, the text and descriptions I would liked to have on paper with the computer, but I cannot discover how get this.  Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Uploading video from my Cannon Elura 100 to my MacBook

I am beginning the same search, amandh, but I suspect the news will be bad. The Canon DV cameras are built to upload still images via USB and video footage via Firewire, but MacBooks have left the Firewire protocol behind, just like SCSI and floppy disks. USB and Firewire are apples and oranges, and to convert one to the other, you need a translator of some sort, and the fix won't be a new type of cable from Radio Shack

I DID A DEFRAG AND ERROR CHECKING ON MY PORTABLE 1 TB AND IT SHOWS NO PROBLEMS BUT WHEN I COPY DATA ONTO IT THE DATA SHOWS BUT CAN NOT BE USED HOW DO I FIX IT ?.....

This sounds like a compatibility problem between the computer your using and the format (logical structure) of the portable disk.

Many things can cause this but it sounds like you have a portable disk formatted with the NTFS structure that is used with Microsoft Windows computers and are trying to write to it using an Apple Macintosh computer, possibly a laptop (MacBook, MacBook Pro, etc.).

This may not be your problem but lacking more detailed information I'll give this a try this since it exactly describes your problem and provides a workable solution.

The Problem :-
Macintosh computers are not very compatible with Windows devices. They use an operating system called "OSX". OSX can read data from a Windows "NTFS" formatted disk, even error check it, but it can't write to it or repair it unless a utility program that provides NTFS Read & Write ability is installed.

The Solution :-
I use just such a utility, it is available from Paragon Software and costs about $17.00 and gives native Read/Write capability to NTFS formatted volumes.

While you could "Reformat" the portable disk with the OSX Journaling format to make it compatible with Macintosh computers, doing so would wipe all data already on the disk, I'm sure that's not what you want. Using the Paragon NTFS compatibility utility is better in that you would not have to do anything with your portable disk so you would not lose any data already on It, instead it would just give your Mac the same native Read/Write capability that Windows uses thereby making your portable disk Read/Write compatible with both Macintosh and Windows computers. A far better solution.

That's only one of the many possible compatibility problems that could be causing the problem, most problems like this can be resolved by providing me with more information would with allow a more accurate diagnosis.

Why are facebook pages i manage frozen?

Without further details and troubleshooting, it is hard to get to the root cause of the issue! I would start by checking with another browser, e.g. Chrome or Firefox. If it works, you will know it is an incompatibility or lack of plugin, e.g. video. If you have the same issue with any other browser, than you might be looking into a system wide issue and the next step would be to test it in a new admin user account. In the end, even a minor issue like this, might only be solved by re-installing the OS.
All the best,
Alex

I can't get my Mbox2 to sync up to my MacBook Pro the green lights are on

Using Digidesign hardware involves an arcane recipe of the proper firmware, driver, and ProTools application versions, according to the subversion of the operating system. You have read that correctly: the viable brew of software versions can be influenced by even minor security updates to the operating system. Please submit a support request with Digidesign/Avid to sort this out; their tech support personnel are the only ones who have a complete understanding of how to resolve this.

I am running OS X 10.4.11 and would like to upgrade my operating system?

Please provide more information.
To what would you like to upgrade it?

Since OSX Mavericks was just announced, I'm going to assume that's what you're wanting to upgrade to.

Not all Macs can run Mavericks.

Mavericks Capable Macs

Mavericks, like its predecessor Mountain Lion, requires one of the following Macs with at least 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of available hard drive space:
  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)

If your Mac isn't one of the ones listed above, you won't be able to upgrade.

If you have an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini model that was originally released in Early/Mid 2006, the latest version of Mac OS X your system supports is Snow Leopard.

Was it just water or was there any salt or sugar in the liquid water? Did you set the Macbook vertical ( so the water would not sit on the motherboard?
BTW: The first thing you should have done after water spillage was to remove power and the battery!

Is the Macbook Air enough if I onlz want to use for private leisure?

It's a good product but has it's limitation in terms of no CD/DVD drive, lack of USB ports, quite a small hard drive (80 GB as opposed to 500GB for a low end Macbook Pro), less RAM and smaller screen (11.3 inch as opposed to 13 inch for a Macbook Pro). For another 200 dollars you could buy a macbook pro which has higher specs.

Not sure that this info will be of use to you, and i have not tried this on any keyboard, but i had a similar experience with a scale that has a digital display. When i took the thing apart to change its battery i found that the display was actually like a piece of glass. On one edge was a rubber like strip that was the interface between the display and the circuit board. This piece was not seated well against the display part and so the information from the circuit board was only partially making it to the display causing the same sort of result that you describe that you see with the keyboard. You may be able to open up your board and just fiddle with the parts, put it back together and it might start working for you. I had to sort of shim the display with a thin piece of material to get the display to maintain better contact with the rubber strip part. Hopefully, this info will be useful. Good luck!

Is there a way to connect my Dell MMS 5650 speakers to a Macbook Pro laptop or a wireless router? Where can I find cables for converting? Thanks!

The speakers should directly connect to the "line-out" socket on your Macbook computer, without any need for adapters.

I have _never_ seen a wireless router that had _any_ "audio" capability -- what you're asking for seems to be unreasonable.

Any "Dollar Store" or the "big-box" stores (such as Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, Future Shop, Wal-Mart) should have adapter-cables.
