Question about Samsung LN37A550P LCD TV

LN37A550 LCD TV has washed out image

I have a SAMSUNG LN37A550 LCD TV with washed out images. The menus are equally washed out. I got this TV secondhand and it was like this when I got it. The user controls (contrast, backlight etc) do not solved the problem. Can this be solved in service mode ? Is this caused by a bad pc board ?

This SAMSUNG LN37A550 also has a "reversed video" effect. The dark parts of the images appear light and the light parts appears dark. I set the Picture Options to the "Blue Only Mode" (bad idea)

and the screen was so light nothing could be made out. I did a
"Picture Reset" to get back. Going into "Service Mode" is probably not a good idea with menus that can barely be read.

    SAMSUNG LN37A550 Problem solved
I replaced the LCD Controller (TCON) with a "pulled" unit from another TV. The same problem is still present. So I put the original part back. Now I am seeing vertical lines also !! (hmm I've seen this before on other lcd displays) The Controller has two flat cable connectors at the top. I disconnected and re-connected the flat cables. Now one side of the display looks clear and correct !!

Ahaa, just as I though! The problem is - the flat cables has to be positioned correctly on the board connector. So I disconnected and re-connected flat cable for bad side only. (the connectors on the board simply flip up like a door) Now all works.
Reassembled tv for the 'last' time and tested. The washed out picture is back ! Took off back cover tested. Problem still present. Dis-connected top of "H" frame and tested. Problem gone ! When both sides of top of "H" frame are pressed down to re-assemble the picture goes bad. Either a short or something along the top of the set is out of place. So I put the screws back in on side and put insulation under the other side and put that screw back. Problem now solved. Re-assembled tv for "last" time and no problems present after a week of watching.

It is possible the problem is caused by a wrong option byte setting in the service menu. The correct setting depends on the type LCD panel used in that version. Version number can be found on a sticker on the right side of the television. A bad main board or TCON board can also cause that type of problem.

This may be due to a faulty Timing Control board (TCON board). I had a similar problem with my Samsung LCD TV picture being split vertically down the middle. The image on both halves appeared fuzzy and in reverse (mirror) including the menus. I replaced the TCON board and the problem was resolved.

LN37A550 FLAT SCREEN TV

To remove the base stand, place the TV face down on a smooth surface. Place a cloth underneath it to protect the screen. Remove the 4 phillip screws from the stand. The stand can now be removed. The set can with a cover plate you can use to cover the opening.

Green noise on all black images on my SAMSUNG LN LCD TV screen

I had a similar problem with my LG plasma. I used the Image Sticking Minimization
(Pixel Orbitor, White Wash, and Inversion) feature which is designed to prevent image burn in and ghosting. This ISM feature may be available on the Samsung or any other brand under a different name. I activated the "white wash" option for about 30 mins, the screen turns white and somehow the pixels get reset. The green noise disappeared after that.

I hope this helps. Phezbuster

Samsung tv

Hey tj1217,

The most common problem that may occur when you connect a video game console to a TV (especially front and rear-projection models) is a condition that is often called "image burn" or "image retention." This typically happens if the same image is left on the screen for a prolonged period of time, like when playing a video game that has many stationary images or if the game is left on pause for an extended period. In some cases, this may even be caused by test patterns, on-screen programming menus, or picture-in-picture boxes.

Before connecting your Nintendo Wii, I would first suggest checking the owner's manual for the TV itself to see if Samsung has any warnings or disclaimers against doing so. If you are unable to find your owner's manual or are unsure of what to do next, you may always contact Samsung directly for more information.

Should you choose to connect the Wii based on the manufacturer's suggestions/warnings, keep in mind that you can usually avoid issues like image burn by taking simple precautions such as turning the TV off when taking a break. The less time that the same images (or backgrounds) are displayed on the screen, the lower the risk is of image burn occurring.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
