Question about HP Pavilion dv5020us Notebook

1 Answer

Broken HP!! I had my laptop open, and I tossed it on the bed, (DUMB IDEA) which made the middle part, where the LCD and keyborad connect, crack. It wasn't that bad looking at first. But now, the more I use it the more its cracking. If I try to close my laptop the middle part is all uneven and I can see the metal bars inside.... I know it's hard to explain. MY MAIN QUESTION: Can the geek squad at best buy fix this, or will I have to send it in to HP company?

It is best to contact HP, or an authorised HP Service Centre. Then, you may require to send it back. It won't be free, as your dumb idea wasn't covered by the warranty.

Best Buy is okay, but please don't give it to any repairman if you care for your expensive device, as they may spoil it more.

Go to the HP Support Site, it is great. You can contact by email, phone, and whatever you choose.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

My screen on my toshiba laptop P775 comes on but looks broken

If you mean broken as in it has a crack, it has liquid effect leak or dark then yes you have a broken lcd

Replacing is not a difficult as it seems, mainly by removing a few screws around the frame hidding under the rubber pads, then sometime you also need to remove the keyboard/power control panel, then its jsut a case of removing the broken lcd and buying a replacement panel and fitting it.
heres me taking a panel out on another laptop but gives you the idea.
If your in London, then I can do the repair for, cost of parts + 20pounds + return delivery costs.

Screen messed up

If the screen is cracked it will have black marks on the LCD, the only way to fix this is have it replaced, go to www.ebay.com type make and model of laptop, refine search to screen, this will give you idea of price.

Can not get keyborad off

Probably the switch to turn keyboard on/off is broken
1) You have open the laptop (instruction here, but yours might be slightly different: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9x5SF_NFsw4 - normally you firstly remove the button panel (no screws) and secondly open 1-2 screws at the bottom of laptop)).
2) Find the switch, remove the broken parts or stick them with SuperGlue. As you can't find the replacement switch currently on eBay - you can ask if the computer repair service has one spare.

My daughter just dropped her acer aspire netbook. Only half of the screen is visible the other half is white and black with a line down the middle

Hi,

Dropping the netbook will have probably broken the LCD screen.

There is no other way to repair the problem without replacing the screen itself. You can however use a external monitor and use the keyboard to toggle between the two screens.

I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear but unfortunately LCD screens are fragile so a good knock can crack them causing only one half or the part or the screen which is not broken to show. The backlight itself sounds like its working as there is still light showing behind the cracks.

Regards.
