Sounds like the hard drive is broken. Listen to your iPod as you start it up. If it sounds like the disk motor is not getting the disk to spin or there is a repetitive clicking sound you can be sure the HDD is broken. You can try to replace the hard drive yourself, the part is available on any auction website. There is an iPod classic Repair service that can fix it for you. There is an iPod classic repair guide that can show you how to do the repair yourself.

Hey

start with this page
http://www.fixya.com/support/r561901-ipod_problems_start_5_solutions

if that doesn't solve the problem see the last link to the warranty checker, the last option is repair service from apple. if you got warranty its free, if you don't they will charge you.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

My ipod says www.apple.com/support/ipod when i turn on my 160gb ipod it reads a big red x and the apple.com/support

This indicates that the hard drive inside the iPod classic has gone bad.

Check Apple's Warranty web page to see if your iPod is still under warranty: https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

Simply type in the Serial Number located on the back of the iPod, and your location. Who knows, if you are lucky, you may be able to send it in to get it fixed/replaced for free.
