Some DSL Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) Authentication to establish Internet connection with their end-users. This article will guide you in setting up the router's PPPoE feature.
NOTE: This article assumes that you already have the username and the password for your DSL Internet connection.

Step 1:
Access the router's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here

NOTE: If you're using a Mac, click here for instructions.

Step 2:
On the Setup tab, click the drop-down arrow for Internet Connection Type then, select PPPoE.

I'm having trouble with my DLINK dir-615 router. I can get a connection to the router through a wired connection and I also can connect to the router via wireless. I CANNOT get access to the internet...

I believe you have an IP Address conflict or the router needs to be configured for PPPoE. Here's how:

Basic DSL Setup - PPPoE

Most Internet Service Providers offer PPPoE authentication. Please consult your ISP if you are not sure if PPPoE could be used.

To configure your router for PPPoE you will need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to 'PPPoE' option. However majority of Modems nowadays already have PPPoE enabled. If your modem has PPPoE client built-in, you need to select the 'DHCP' option in your router. The router is set to this option by default.

Configuration steps:

Step 1

Connect the broadband modem to the WAN (INTERNET) port of your router. If the modem has USB connection make sure that it is NOT connected to any computers via the USB cable and that the modem is switched to Ethernet (not USB). Only the modem's Ethernet port should be connected to the router's WAN (INTERNET) port.
Connect your computer(s) to the router's LAN port(s) or establish connection to it wirelessly.

Step 2

Open your Internet Explorer and log into your router by typing in its IP address (in most cases the default IP is http://192.168.0.1 ). Note that you do not have to be on the Internet in order to access this address because you are just connecting to your router's address. Specify username and password for your router, the default is `admin' (optional) and password is blank (nothing).

Step 3

After logging into the router select Setup. Set Internet Connection to 'PPPoE' option.
This can be done by either clicking on Internet Connection Setup Wizard or if you want to set it up manually, then click on 'Manual Internet Connection Setup'. Note that it is very common for broadband modems to carry out the PPPoE authentication for you. In this case you need to select the 'Dynamic IP' option (DHCP) in your router, do not select PPPoE. If you have such modem proceed to Step 5

Step 4

If your broadband modem does not have PPPoE function, select the 'PPPoE' option in the router and enter your account details (username and password given by your ISP). Note that some ISP's require username to be as your full e-mail address (ex: username@ispname.com).

Step 5

Click on SAVE SETTINGS and then on REBOOT THE DEVICE to apply the new configuration. Recycle power to modem.

You do not have to run any login client (like PPPoE) on your computer in order to connect to the Internet. If you had it setup when using the modem without the router, disable it in Internet Explorer under Tools > Internet Options > Connections > set to 'Never dial a connection'.

If you did not have to run PPPoE login client on your computer when modem was directly connected to your PC, your ADSL modem has PPPoE built-in. In this case set the router's WAN (INTERNET) port should be set to the 'Dynamic IP' option.

If your ISP requires PPPoA connection you need to make sure that your ADSL modem supports PPPoA (PPPoA can not be used on Routers which do not have ADSL Modem built-in). If your modem will be carrying out PPPoA connection you need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to the 'DHCP' option.

If you are having difficulties accessing the Internet:

- Turn the modem and the router off for a minute and then turn the modem first and then the router.

- Log into the router and go to Status page. Note what IP address it is getting on the WAN (INTERNET) interface. If the IP address you see under WAN (INTERNET) appears to be in the same range you are using on your network (e.g. 192.168.0.x), you will need to change the range you are using on your LAN to something different, e.g. 192.168.88.x. You can do this on your router under Setup > LAN Setup. Note that after changing the IP of your router you will only be able to access it through its new IP, e.g. 192.168.88.1.

- Select the MAC Cloning option. Click on Clone MAC Address button. Do this from the computer which the broadband modem was directly connected to the last time. This will place the MAC address of your computer into the router. Save settings and reboot the router. Reboot your broadband modem as well.

- Uninstall your antivirus software (sometimes disabling or closing the software is not enough) and reboot your PC.

Did you already forward port 1723? I guess you have done that. To isolate it, try to bypass the router and setup or establish the VPN session there. If it doesn't work, maybe your ISP doesn't allow port 1723 or it's just the modem.

4. it will show the setup page of the router. u can set the router on the specific internet setup that u have.
a. if ur isp is a cable company, normaly u need to do a mac clone on the router setup page by cloning the computer that is reg to the cable company, how to determine it. ex. the computer that is reg to the cable company is a desktop or laptop, if this computer is connected to the modem directly and u can access internet.
b. once u determined it u need to connect this computer directly to the router and do a mac clone and set ur internet settings to auto-dhcp..then save the settings and after that, unplug to the power of the modem and router, plug in 1st the power of the modem then once all lights lit, plug in the router, then once all lights lit, try to pull up a browser that ur computer is connected directly to the router.. ur cable connection shud be, cable from the modem will go to the WAN port of the router and connect ethernet cable on port1 going to the lan port of the computer..once u can access the internet, u can now access again the setup page of the router by typing at the url:192.168.1.1 and u can setup the wireless settings, u need to create a ssid or wireless name and a security..
5. If ur isp is a dsl normaly they give u a username and password to connect to the internet, ur settings on the router should be PPPoe
6. If ur isp gives u a static ip address settings, u need to set the router to isp setup.
a. how to check the isp of the isp given to u..
1. click on start
2. run
3. type cmd
4. it will show a dos prompt
5. from the dos prompt type ipconfig/all
6. it will list the ip address, subnet, default gateway, dns server
this settings should be type in to the settings on the router for static ip addressing..
7. Once your done on the internet setting, go to your wireless connection settings and you can create a wireless network name or ssid, set a security by selecting wep, wpa, wpa2.
8. once all is set. save the settings and to check if your laptop can access the wireless network that you did, turn on the wireless switch of your laptop, once its on, it will show the wireless network icon on the lower right of the taskbar, right click it and select on view available network, the network name that u did should list, just select it and connect and it will ask for the password, just type the password and connect, you should be connected to the wireless network and have internet access..
9. If you are going to hook up your desktop to the wireless connection, you need to install a wireless network adapter, install the driver and do the same thing as u did to the laptop, for the desktop no need of turning on the wireless switch, once you install the driver correctly, it will show a network icon..
if you have any query pls feel free to get in touch.. good luck

hello! there is a possibility that the internet connection setup of your router is not proper setup.. ex.. you need to know what kind of modem u use for ur internet connection, if you are using a cable modem, u need to mac clone the network interface card of your computer. if you are using a pppoe connection, u need to setup ur router using the username and password given to u by your isp, or maybe your setup is on a static ip addressing.. to check ur ip address that is giving by your modem.. connect ur computer directly to the modem and click on star, then run and type in to the box cmd and it will give u a dos mode prompt.. type in ipconfig/all and it will list the ip address, subnetmask, default dateway and the dns server..you can check first with ur isp what kind of connection u use for interner access

Setting up Wireless-N Router in a PPPOE Internet Connection

well first of all you will have to login to your routers control panel using the software which was provided or using the web based interface...
you can set your PPPOE INTERNET connection over there as it is self explanatory in the wifi router control panel...

for sharing your files though your laptop you will have to enable file and folder sharing...
which can be done by right clicking any folder selecting properties and then sharing....

you cannot make your PC as the server in case of broadcasting Internet through your house because your wireless router is there to do that...
