I have experienced the same exact problem.  I went for a walk with my LG Vu in my pocket,  When I tried to use the phone afterward, the screen would not register my touch, with the exception of the tabs at the very top labeled all calls, missed calls, dialed calls, and received calls.  Although these tabs worked, they no longer vibrated when touched.  I too have a small scratch on the very top left of the screen, but it has been there for months.
I found that after not using the phone for a day or so, it suddenly worked again, briefly, for a couple of hours, and then locked up again. The only insight I can give as to the cause of this is that directly preceding the second lock-up, the button on the right side of the phone which locks and unlocks the screen, vibrated oddly when pushed and the dial screen popped up, a screen I rarely use.  It was then that it would not register touch again.
At&T claims there have been no reported problems with the touch screens.  If you find an answer, please post.

mine has the exact same problem. the buttons on top still work dialed, missed, recieved calls. but nothing else works. My phone has no damage to it at all. It quit right in the middle of texting a message. the button response slowed way down to nothing in a matter of seconds. at&t is sending me a new one for free, since i've had it less than 8 months. but I have no way of getting any of my numbers or other info off it. dont get a data cable to try to transfer files either. if you have it on music sinc lilke i did. it wont do anything and i can't access it to change the connection type.

I have this same problem. My touchscreen all of a sudden stopped working, then it started working again. Then it started to react crazy like I was pressing it a million times. Then it would stop working and repeat. Now it is not working at all period. I can't access any of my photos, videos or contacts to transfer to the new phone!!!!

touch screen doesnt respond at all. i emailed the att device support since its just 5 months old. please help me if you  know how to fix it.

  • irmilla Apr 21, 2009

My touchscreen stopped working. Phone is about 5 months old, never got wet, never fell...I am not sure what happened, it just stopped working. I can only make calls to the numbers logged as my recent calls by pressing the buttons in the bottom. I am also able to pick up incoming calls, but no access to my conatcts, pictures or NADA that has to do with the touchscreen. I am on my way to getting a new one, too bad they do not replace them in the same ATT store you bought them, you need to go to one of their DSC. Too bad Im getting the same phone, at this point I am willing to take a downgrade.

the bottom half of the screen stopped working after i laid on it by mistake

  • Anonymous Apr 25, 2009

My LG Vu touch screen quit working for no reason too. I took out the battery and put it back in and it fixed the problem.

  • Anonymous Apr 25, 2009

I bought a new case for my brand new LG Vu and I put it in my purse. When I tried to turn it on nothing would work. The touch screen won't respond, the only thing I can do now is scroll through my missed or recent calls. I tried everything. If there is any way or trick to make it work I would appreciate it if you could tell me.

SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME. ah this is very confusing and irritating. i was laying out in the sun, and to prevent my LG VU from melting in the intense florida heat, i put it under the small of my back. when my alarm went off, i couldn't use the 'off' or 'snooze' buttons, i had to press the hard key button to end it. all of my hard key buttons work, and i get the same minimal response with the missed calls, all calls, recieved calls, dialed calls, etc. i haven't tried to call it yet, and nobody has sent me any texts, so i don't know if i'm able to recieve them in any way. i'm hoping i can get a replacement, because it's been just about 8 months since i got this phone.

I had the same issue and was pissed, not to mention i didn't have a warranty and it was only a couple months old. I actually bought another phone and because I had nothing to lose, took my phone apart and replaced the touchscreen myself for about $30. If you have ever changed out a PC part, you could replace this screen. It's not really that difficult and there are guides out there. The screen itself is just a thin piece of plastic that lays over the lcd screen and is kinda "glued" into the frame of the phone. If you look at ur phone and follow the frame around, that's the piece ur replacing - but you have to disconnect all the wires from the inside. Now mines works like a charm -- and I'm stuck with two phones :~( PS: STOP USING THE STYLUS!

For everybody who this didn't work for I have a solution. It is a Hardware issue involving the glue that attaches the touch screen to the phone.

First take a pin and dig in around the side of the glossy front part of phone (some people say it looks oily). And remove the clear layer (not the dark black layer).

See if this works.

If not (this will make the face of your phone look ugly) take a pin in the same spot and pull up the black layer. This next layer looks like 4 metal wires running allaround the outside edge of the touch screen. (this layer IS the touch screen). The problem is the glue that holds this touch screen layer to the phone case melts and ozed onto the touch screen part and messes up when you click on something.

Now look for areas that don't look right looks like something gooey is stuck under or around this layer. Take a pin and gently lift up this ware layer (you will find it is only glued on the edges of the screen) only lift up as much as you need to get to the gooey part you see has ozed onto the lcd. Swipe it out making sure not to leave any behind.

Try it now, should work. if it dosent, lift up the whole screen (dont pull on the edge where all 4 wires meet) and clean both sides (ethanol?) DONT use acetone. then find a way to secure it back down to the phone case.

Good luck!

Take a length of electrical tape and place it diagonally across the screen . Quickly pull the tape off as though you were ripping a band-aid off and it should become responsive for a time. Keep the length of tape on the back of your phone until you can replace the plastic.

I recommend replacing the plastic as well , however, in the meantime try taking a length of black electrical tape and laying it across the screen diagonally then pulling the tape as though you were ripping a band-aid off . Do it with speed and you should be able to use the touchscreen for a while but the problem will return so keep the length of electrical tape on the back of the phone until you can replace the screen. I believe the screen sags because when it charges it generates a lot of heat. good luck all

This happened to me, and I followed Dorian's suggestion about the black electrical tape. That didn't work, but my husband told me to try again, using a big piece of duct tape! I laid it across, and tried ripping it up fast, all angles, but that didn't work. Then I stuck it down and pulled s-l-o-w-l-y...and some of the buttons started to respond! That meant the plastic was starting to come up from whatever it was stuck to. (I had stuck the phone in my waistband, and, the face of the phone next to my skin...too much heat, not good) Anyway, I repeated the process all around the phone, sticking it down and pulling up really slow. I don't know how long this will work, but now it works like before, when before, all it did was RECEIVE calls/texts. Duct tape, and repeated slow pulls, all over.

Touch screen isn't working

this also happened to me, the screen from the inside is either cracked or had blown out (stopped woking because of maybe over heat or some other bizzare reason, the only way to know for sure what happened is to obviously open the phone) you have to buy a 60 to 70 dollar (US dollar) lg LCD screen, and tool kit to open the phone, take out the lcd, and put the new one it if the old lcd is fine, then return the lcd that u bought and call warranty. a new lg vu cost around 100 to 120

My VUs screen is non responsive or enters a different key when one is pushed. how can i callibrate the phone

Touch Screen Settings
1. Tap Menu , Settings , then Touch Settings to
adjust the touch screen’s sound and vibration.
2. If the touch screen is not responding as you expect,
calibrate the screen for touch accuracy.

If this does not work the phone has a restore feature, but you would have to back up everything you put on the phone so you don't lose it.

In the menu there is a master reset.

If this does not work contact the company and see how to send in for repair.

There is no software update for this phone at the moment.
